Ladies Golf News 2024

Ladies Golf News 2024

2024 saw a new initiative in Templemore Golf Club as we moved to a one club model encompassing the former Ladies and Mens separate entities. However, we continue to operate the day-to-day Ladies activities within the club.

The ladies partook in different ventures apart from golf throughout 2024, we had a Breast Cancer Awareness talk in the clubhouse, completed weekend walks as a group before the golfing season took off and a day trip to Carton House on 31st August to the Ladies Irish Open to support Leona Maguire. These days were enjoyed by all who attended and it was also a great way to meet outside of the golfing game.

Our new Lady Captain Caroline Fogarty along with Captain Les Mason and President Tommy Foley started the golfing season with the Captains drive-in on February 11th.  A great crowd gathered to wish them all well for their tenure as Captains and President of our club. It was great to see so many of our new Lady members who joined in 2023 returning enthusiastically for the new season.

Weekly competitions were slower than normal starting due to the persistent wet weather in the early part of the year but by April the Monday senior/beginners’ competitions and the Tuesday 18 hole were in full swing.

Interclub team events started in April also with the Ladies progressing well. Managers and players worked hard travelling the length and breadth of Munster representing our club with prestige. It was with great jubilation in East Cork golf club on the 7th September, that one team made it all the way and brought back the Munster Trophy and Pennant to our club. Huge congratulations to Michelle Hassett and her team for their super achievement showing strength and comradery for such a small club competing against the much bigger clubs throughout Munster.

During the year our club achieved the Women in Golf Charter and this certificate was presented to us by Sam Power from Golf Ireland on 10th June. The aim of this charter was to increase women and girl’s participation and membership in golf and with all the hard work done in 2023 by Captain Mary Gilmartin and everyone that helped her, this was achieved gracefully.

At home our biggest competition of the year, the Lady Captain’s prize was contested between 22nd and 27th July. There were many very happy prize winners in the Senior/beginner category, the social mixed and the 36-hole competitions but Caroline’s beautiful prize was won with a great score by a very surprised but delighted Mary Butler. A wonderful social evening followed in the clubhouse, where talents way outside the golfing field were evident.

On 14th September the hotly contested President’s prize was played with Shauna Geary emerging the winner after a wonderful round of golf. Shauna was presented her Presidents Prize by 2023 President Margie Costigan.

On Wednesday evenings throughout the season, we played the Social mixed, a 9-hole scramble. This is a fun competition followed by tea and sandwiches in the clubhouse, a great opportunity to get to know other club members.

As in previous years, the Play in Pink competition raised valuable funds for Breast Cancer research. Both lady and gent members contributed and played in this competition for this worthy cause, raising a fantastic €1,475.

We rely on our valuable sponsors to help us run many of our competitions throughout the year and for this we are eternally grateful.

We encourage new members as always to join Templemore Golf Club. Golf is a great way to get exercise, meet new people, make long lasting friendships and our club is very welcoming to all.
