Templemore Golf Club News; 

 

Presidents Prize;  Friday 26th. and Saturday 27th.  Was a fantastic occasion for Joint Club Presidents, Michael Keely and Lady President, Mary Hogan.  The weather was excellent, the course was in superb condition which resulted in very high scores.  The attendance superseded all expectations.  President Michael gave great credit to the course management team and to all the cooperation from everyone which made the occasion very successful. Lady President Mary also reciprocated the same sentiments and especially to the Ladies for all their cooperation in making this a wonderful occasion for the club.  The night continued in the ideal location of the Club lounge with music and dance into the early hour.  The atmosphere was very enjoyable in what was a continental setting.

President Prize Winner for 2019;   Declan Kelly, 45pts.  Other Results were;  2nd. Mick Carey 44pts.  3rd. Paul Tuohy 43pts.  Best front 9, Jerry Keegan Snr. 22pts.  Best Back 9,  Jerry Keegan Jnr. 23pts.  Best Senior, Liam Daly 22pts.  Over 24 Handicap Senior, Phillip Ryan 31pts.

Fred Perry Trophy;  Seanie Gleeson team on Monday 22nd.  at 4pm. in Templemore resulted in a great victory -V- West Waterford. The team were; Dennis Maher, Padraigh Moloney, Tom McGrath, Bertie Keane, Seamus Bourke, Liam Daly, Joe O’Connor, Mattie Bourke, Tom Kenny, Joe Fahy, Ambrose Purcell, Michael Purcell, John Hassett.  A fantastic result for Templemore to successfully beat such a prestigious club.  Well done Seanie and his team.

Seniors Golf;   Senior results 18th. July.  A huge turnout for the seniors golf. The results were, 1st. John Fitzpatrick, Gerry Keegan, Seamus Ryan, Jim Gleeson.  2nd. Tom Kenny, Michael Maher, Paddy Nolan, Tony O’Toole.  3rd. Tom McGrath, John Brown, Willie Haverty, Pat Maher.  The next away Seniors will be on Thursday 16th. as usual.

 

LMC Seniors Alliance Golf Society;   Bernie O’ Rourke still retains 1st position in Golfer of the Year with 283 pts.  Also the following Templemore members in the top 10 are:  John N Galvin 254Pts. and Bertie Keane 251pts.  Well done to all and the best of luck to the finals.

 

“Cadets” Section;   There was a fantastic attendance again at the Cadets on Wed.24th. and Friday 26th.  The Cadets age is 8 to 15 Boys and Girls and Cadet youths Age 15 to 18 Boys and Girls.   All members who have a junior family member that has an interest in Golf should encourage them to call in on Wed.  If new to the game, clubs will be made available to those that do not have them.  This is an opportunity to build members for the future of the Club.  All training will be in association with CGI (Confederation of Golf Ireland) guidelines and will continue throughout the year.  Do your best to promote this venture.  A special practice range is now in place for the Cadets.  Contact Pat O’ Connell. 087-9205821 Club Juvenile Liaison Officer. Come along if you are interested in playing Golf

Templemore Golf Club News; 

 

Ladies Golf; -V – K Club.  Congratulations to the Ladies on a superb win on Sunday 21st. July against the renowned K-Club Ladies in the Boyne Trophy Competition. The match was played in torrential weather conditions but did now deter the Templemore team ability and determination to win.  They battled it out against the K Club ladies with 2wins at home and the final win on the 18th. hole in the K Club.  A fantastic victory for Templemore Golf Club Ladies over the very prestigious K Club who won this tournament in 2013 and 2018.  The next round is in Edenderry for the Semi-final pre the 19th. Aug.  The BOYNE TROPHY competition was the brainchild of Gretta Foran in 1994. It has progressed to be one of the most fiercely contested competitions in the midlands and surrounding areas.  The semi-final and final days are hosted by Edenderry Golf Club.   The victorious Templemore team were; Mary Ryan, Ann O’Rourke, Mary Hayes, Margee Costigan, Mary Fitztpatrick, Shelia Delaney, Josie Bourke, MaryAnn Maher, Sadie Tynan, Bernie Stapleton. Congratulations to all.

Captains Prize Week;  Club Captain Tony O’Toole and Lady Captain Lorrain Ryan had a fantastic response to their Golf week events. The winner of the Captains Prize 2109 was Eoin Fitzpatrick and the winner of the Cadet Youths was Niall Moloney. A talented young winner Eoin Fitzpatrick and Niall Moloney from the Cadets indicates a great future of talented young golfers coming through and an assurance to the future of the Club.  The week commence with the Vice-Captain Prize S/F on Saturday 6th. and Sunday 7th.  Ladies preliminary round on Tuesday 9th.  Social Mix and Vice-Captain Prize Presentation on Wednesday 10th.  Seniors on Thursday 11th. Men’s Captain (Stroke Play) preliminary round on Friday 12th.  Men’s semi-final and Ladies Final on Saturday 13th. Men’s Captain final on Sunday 14th.  There was a joint presentation in the Club Lounge on Sunday evening 15th.   The weather was fantastic, and the Club Lounge was alive and vibrant with a continental atmosphere due to the excellent weather, relaxation on the balconies to a full moon.  A BRILLANT Night.

Niall Moloney, 2nd. Luke Ormond, 3rd. Dylan Carey.  A fantastic performance by all and an indication that the club future is looking promising.

Captains Prize Week;  Best of luck to Club Captain Tony O’Toole and Lady Captain Lorrain Ryan on this special week of Captains Golf events. The week will commence with the Vice-Captain Prize S/F on Saturday 6th. and Sunday 7th.  Ladies preliminary round on Tuesday 9th.  Social Mix and Vice-Captain Prize Presentation on Wednesday 10th.  Seniors on Thursday 11th. Men’s Captain (Stroke Play) preliminary round on Friday 12th.  Men’s semi-final and Ladies Final on Saturday 13th. Men’s Captain final on Sunday 14th.  There will be joint presentations in the Club Lounge Sunday evening.  A great week of golf activity to be enjoyed by all.  (Results in next Issue)

Fred Perry Trophy;  Congratulations to Seanie Gleeson and his victorious team who beat Dungarvin in Templemore on Monday 1st. July.  Seanie’s team is now into the “EAST COAST FINAL” -V- West Waterford on Tuesday 16th. July at 4pm. In Templemore.    All available support on the 16th. will be appreciated.  Another fantastic achievement for Templemore Golf Club. Central Towns Trophy:  Another great victory by Liam Leahy winning formula team -v- Birr, home and away on Saturday 6th.  Another brilliant performance for the Club. The tournament is organised and run by Tullamore Golf Club and the Trophy, which is perpetual, is known as the “Central Towns Trophy”.

 

Boyne Trophy;   Congratulations to the Ladies in their victory -V- Baltinglass on Sunday 7th.   Another proud achievement for Templemore Golf Club. A Super victory.  The BOYNE TROPHY competition was the brainchild of the esteemed Gretta Foran in 1994, designed to cater for the “over 50’s” ladies, it has progressed to be one of the most fiercely contested competitions in the midlands and surrounding areas.

Seniors Golf;   Senior results 4th. July.  Another excellent turnout for the senior golf. The results were, 1st. John Hassett, Joe Hennessy, Willie Haverty, Pat O’Connell . 2nd. “Cadets” Section;   The New Cadet section commenced on this Wednesday 3rd July at 10am.  The Cadets are in 2 parts.  Age 8 to 15 Boys and Girls.  Age 15 to 18 Boys and Girls.  All members who have a junior family member that has an interest in Golf should encourage them to call in on Wed.  Also if new to the game, clubs will  be made available to those that do not have them.  This is an opportunity to build members for the future of the Club.  All training will be in association with CGI (Confederation of Golf Ireland) guidelines and will continue throughout the year.  Do your best to promote this venture.  A special practice range is now in place for the Cadets.  Contact Pat O’ Connell. 087-9205821 Club Juvenile Liaison Officer.

Cadet Youth Competition; There will be a 9hole competition for Cadet Youths (15-18) on this Thursday 11th. at 6.30 pm.  All youths who want to join the Cadets Golf can call in on Wed. 10th. at 10am where there will be a training session in progress.  All Boys and Girls are welcome.  The fee is €25 for the year membership.

 

LMC Golfer of the Year;  Two Templemore members, Bernie O’Rourke on 212 pts and Bertie Keane on 209pts. are leading the strong field of players.   We wish them and all the other Templemore senior members the best of luck in future LMC competitions.

Templemore Golf Club International Great victory;  Templemore team had a great victory over France and Italy in the Twinning golf competition which took place in Premilhat, France last week. The competition was played over two days in four ball scrambles. The team was Mick Keely, Liam Daly, Liam Leahy, PJ Leahy, Willie Haverty, Pascal Whelan, Pat O’Connell, Joe Hennessey, Tom McGrath.  Con

 

Another Great Victory;  Diageo Mixed;  Down to the wire. Seamus Bourke Diageo team beat Mount Temple on Saturday 29th. July. 3 matches in Mount Temple and 2 matches at home.  The team Pairings are;  Home Pairings;  Shelia Delaney and Tom McGrath, , Kathleen Maher and Joe Fahy, Away Pairs; Josie Bourke and Timmy Touhy, Mary Fitzpatrick and Seamus Bourke. Sadie Tynan and Dinny Maher.  Both sets went to the wire.  Mount Temple were very competitive, but the Templemore team had the resilience to win.  Congratulations to all.
