Templemore Golf Club Captain 2017 Outgoing Speech

Templemore Golf Club Captain 2017 Outgoing Speech.

President of the GUI Mr. John McLoughney and incoming president of Templemore Golf Club and members.  I have come to the end of my year as your Captain.  It was an honour and privilege for me to be your Captain in 2017 and I hope I represented you and Templemore Golf Club well.  I have to say that I enjoyed the experience and it was the opportune time for me to hold the position.

In my acceptance speech last year, I stressed our strength as a club and the importance of every member doing a little extra in time or money to help maintain our club and course.  This was evident in all those volunteers who helped to have the course in excellent condition for the Captains and Presidents competitions and again in the excellent work to clear up after the “Ophelia” Storm damage.  I thank all those involved.

I must also thank all who made the Classic and Dog Race Night such a financial success. Also for the contributions made by the Ladies Club and the Seniors Society to both of whom I am grateful.   I made changes to the format of the GOY for 2017, which proved successful.  I congratulate Dessy Hennessy the winner of my prize and thank him for the gratitude of his acceptance speech.

The Golf Club recycling project in conjunction with the Lions Club went well and our Junior Coaching Programme was very well supported.

Our Senior group are going from strength to strength and we developed a new group of Senior Ladies who play on Monday afternoons.

In 2018 we hope to run 9 hole open qualifying competitions and run our weekend competitions as opens.

Special mention, I have to thank our Green Keeper John Alexander for his excellent work, having the course in perfect condition at all times, and his co-operation during the year is much appreciated.

I am indebted to the committee for their support and co-operation during the year.

I thank Clare, my family and friends who supported me during my term as Captain and allowed me the time to devote to the post.

I wish the club continued success in the future and I wish the incoming Captain Tommy Foley well in 2018 and I assure him my full support.

In conclusion, I had hoped to have a perpetual trophy to be presented with the Captains Prize this year to honour our deceased friend Pat Delahunty who was part of the club for many years, but things did not fall into place.  This is being presented by his family and friends and I hope to finalize it in 2018.

Thank you.

Note from Outgoing President – Tony O’Toole

As president of Templemore Golf  Club for 2017.  I welcome you all here tonight with a special thanks to our Club Captain; Martin Bohan.  Who steered the ship very diligently throughout the year and also to our club secretary Pat O’Connell for his due diligence, with minuets at our committee meetings.  I also want to thank our Competition Secretary and Course Manager, Liam Leahy for all his efforts in both difficult roles also the course Green Keeper John Alexandra for his excellent attention to the greens and equipment.  Also thanks to all our committee members and sub-committee, in their decision making, that protects the lifeline of our club.

Our Volunteers; Templemore Golf Club volunteers are a special breed of passionate golfers going about the preservation and presentation of this Golf Club.  Every day, every event, every occasion their there.  A special thanks to all and especially to John Stapleton and his aide Rody Cawley for organising the volunteer work schedules and to both for their continued support to me over the year, thank you both.

The Seniors;  Thanks to the Seniors committee for continuing with this legacy event and for their contributions to the Club towards equipment and other expenditure throughout the year.

Our Sponsors; Thanks to all our sponsors and especially to Centenary DIY Co Op. for their generous sponsorship to your classic, and also to our local sponsors who are always there to support our club.

This time last year I set out my stall based on one concept “Profiling”.   How best can Templemore Golf Club be profiled to the broader Golf and public community.  The project commenced by redesigning our Web Site and have it integrated into Facebook incorporating “paying on line” including extensive photo galleries and update News Media.  The erection our new Club WELCOME SIGN and embellishing the existing Club Logo.  Also by taking on the PRO office, we got great exposure on the local Tipp Star, Nenagh Guardian and Local Free paper “The Finest.

Very important;  I publicised this Mantra message throughout the year to all Club members both Ladies and Gents;  “This is Your Club, the members, therefore be proud and supportive of it, in whatever way you can that will make a difference.  Be positive and protective of it’s future, so that the youth and next generations of Templemore will inherit the legacy and asset of this great sport facility  “Templemore Golf Club”.

Best wishes to; Incoming Captain for 2018 Tommy Foley and incoming Lady Captain  Sarah Ahearne  The best of luck to you both and also to the newly elected committee here tonight. You all can be assured that you will have my full support and from all the club members.

Finally;  I feel very proud and honoured, to have been president of Templemore Golf Club for 2017.  So tonight I have to pass on this “honourable position to my successor, a very Diligent, Intelligent Person with great knowledge of the game of Golf and of the history of Templemore Golf Club and more important a man that brought a great legacy asset (Seniors Society)  to Templemore Golf Club,    I welcome,  Mr Phillip Ryan.
