Major Community Support.

27/10.   Ronan Loughnane.  The community of Templemore organised “Ramble with Ronan” to support our friend & neighbour Ronan ‘Lucy’ Loughnane and his family. Ronan has recently been diagnosed with Stage 4 Glioblastoma Brain Cancer and is currently undergoing treatment. Ronan has given so much to our community over the years through his involvement in so many different organisations – JK Brackens GAA Club, Sr Aine Historical Society, Lakeside Pitch & Putt Club, Tuatha Corca Teine, his work as local correspondent with the Tipperary Star, Templemore Community Development Association to name but a few.  His infectious energy, sense of place & community and local knowledge have been such an asset to our town & community and he has been the driving force behind so many different local projects always with the aim of improving and developing Templemore Town & community.  It’s now our turn to give back to Ronan and help support him, his wife Annette & their young family as they face this difficult challenge. This event will also support Suir Haven Cancer Support Centre in Thurles, a service that has been very helpful to Ronan and his family.  You are asked to please support the Loughnane Family by sponsoring one of the participants. Borough Challenge.

21/10.  Borough Challenge: Points after Rd 1.  Borrisoleigh, 68Pts..  Clonakenny, 91Pts.  Drom/Inch, 91Pts., Loughmore/Castleiney, 94Pts.  Templemore, 73 Pts.  Upperchurch/Drombane, 88Pts.   This feeds into the “Borough Challenge” Trophy event.  The competition is open to all members.

 

Congratulations;

26/10. Congratulations to our H/C Secretary, Tom McGrath on the fantastic achievement by his son Liam who got man of the match in a victory over Nenagh in the 48th. minute in front of 6,073 fans at Semple Stadium on Sunday 26th. Oct.   Both sides coughed up goals to long-range frees, but it was Liam McGrath who struck the killer blow in the 48th minute.  The back-to-back winning captain added man-of-the-match honours for his 1-03 tally.   The defeat marked Nenagh’s sixth successive county-final defeat since their breakthrough success in 1995.  Congratulation Tom and to all the McGrath Family.

 

Men’s Seniors.

23/10.  On Thursday morning our Seniors promised little it was cold damp and windy but the fortitude of our seven teams forsaking the warmth of the duvet were happily surprised when the overcast skies cleared for warm autumnal sun. The teams were evenly matched with three teams all coming in on 50 points so in 1st. Team,  place on countback were Liam Daly, Tommy Foley, Les Mason and Pascal Whelan. In 2nd. Team place, also on countback were Birdy Ryan, Pat O’Connell, John Egan and Jim Casey and finally in 3rd. Team place were Seamus Bourke, John Galvin, John Stapleton and Seamus Ryan. Well played all.

Seniors Xmass celebrations;  Stop press – our annual Christmas Do will be in Murphy’s Pub Templemore on Thursday 18th. December at 2pm. so put this date in your diary and consult your social secretary, it will be the usual Golf a short AGM then off for a two course meal and entertainment. Hope we can all be together to celebrate the this great year for senior Golfers 2025.

Templemore Golf Club, Recent Drainage Project in process.  This is an extensive project on several area of the course to ensure more continued play during the winter months.  An expensive project funded by Templemore Golf Club and the Sports Capital Grant Scheme. A Brillant legacy for the future of the course and its members.

 

AREA CHALLENGE.

11/10.  AREA CHALLENGE: . Play with Area of birth or current residence !!  Current 13 hole event runs until Wednesday with a new version starting on the same day.

5 of the 8 areas listed last week have at least 3 cards in. Anybody from an area not included already Tom McGrath.

 

COURSE CONDITION. 

20/10. Leaves are giving rise to “Abnormal conditions” currently.  A ball deemed lost in such areas may be replaced and played without penalty with the agreement of your marker.

 

Men’s Seniors Golf.

15/10.  What a day for golf no rain no wind and a course in fantastic condition what more could the seven teams ask for, good scores well there was success for some. In that area. 1st.Team,on count-back with 54 points was Birdie Ryan, Ambrose Purcell, James Murray and Donal Golden.  2nd. Team place also on 54 points was Pat Looby, Liam Daly, John Egan and Jimmy Middleton. In 3rd. Team, with 52 points was Mick Carey, Paddy Fogarty, Michael Healy And Jim Casey. Brillant played Gentlemen and great to see so many for tea and cake and banter afterwards.

 

Sympathy.

15/10.  Bernie and Christy O’Rourke on the sad passing of their brother Peter also to all the O’Rourke family and extended families.  May heaven be Peters bed for ever more. RIP.

Glenn’s Trophy.

8/10.  Congratulations to Josie Bourke, Sheila Delaney, Sadie Tynan and Mary Hayes Kenny who won the Glenn’s Trophy in Birr.  Another victory for our club. Glenn’s Trophy is

an annual golf competition, most recently held at Birr Golf Club in October, with other clubs participating. It is a major event that draws teams from various clubs.

9/10. On a fantastic October day for golf , Its been worse in July, the eight teams sallied forth to enjoy Templemore Golf  Course in great order and returned some great scores before enjoying the craic in the clubhouse. Those celebrating most were in 1st. Team, with 52 points was Micheal Purcell, Ambrose Purcell, John Stapleton and Phil Ryan Snr. Second Team, with 50 points was Seamus Bourke, Tommy Foley, Mick Maher and Pascal Whelan and 3rd. Team.  with 49 points on count-back was Ollie Murray, John Galvin, Jim Casey and Jimmy Middleton. Well played lads.

Ryder Cup.   

28/9.  Congratulation’s to our neighbour “Esker Hills” on nurturing a world class golfer Shane Lowry from Juvenile to the world watching him sink the celebrated put on the 18th. green to win the 2025 Ryder Cup.  Esker Hills in Clara, County Offaly will forever be noted as the Club that nurtures juveniles to become world leaders in juvenile development and emulated by all clubs involved in juvenile development.  Congratulation’s to all at Esker Hills and to all the Lowry family and comrades in golf. A forever proud achievement.

 

Mixed 

24/9.RESULTS: 4 ball got a super evening and another dry Wednesday. 1st. Team, Tom Mc Grath, John Greed 25 pts. 2nd. Team, Joe Fahey, M Healy 21pts. This was the last mixed for the season, Congratulation’s to all and a big appreciation to all involved in this annual event.

New Competition Newsflash.

Oct. Month.  NEWSFLASH: For the month of October there will be 3 weeks of Team/Fourball events all feeding into an “Area Challenge”. More details over the coming days.
Week 1 is a 2 man Scramble running from Monday 6th to Sunday 12th. Entry and reentry 5 euro each. Play over 13 holes.

 

Drainage Work.

Extensive drainage work was completed on fairways, 1,2 and 6.   This was a major project to keep drainage clear off the fairways to improve winter play.  A fantastic success.

 

Men’s Seniors.

25/9.  As the early morning mist cleared to reveal eight teams that then enjoyed the sun on their backs and a course in great golfing condition.  The podium read as in 1st. Place team, on 52 points Bertie Keane, Mick Carey, Jim Gilmartin and George Collins in 2nd. Place team on 50 points was Sean Cashman, Liam Daly, Mick Murphy and John Stapleton. Finally in 3rd. Place team, on 49 points was Eamon Connolly, Pat O’Connell, John Mullally and Jimmy Middleton well played gentlemen.

2/10.  On a day when we all turned worried eyes to the skies for the forerunner of Amy and apart from a couple of holes for the later groups her acolytes never troubled the six teams on the day. Scoring was good even as we moved into autumnal conditions but the course still looked and played great. In 1st. place Team, on 53 points were John Galvin, Mick Carey, Mick Maher and Eoin Wolahan in 2nd. Place Team,  with 52 points Bernie O’Rourke, Tom Hogan and George Collins and in 3rd. Place Team, on 50 points Bertie Keane, Jim Gilmartin and Jimmy Middleton.

 

Templemore Mission Fund

19/9. On behalf of Templemore Mission Fund I wish to thank the financial support from the Templemore Seniors Golf group members for the recent “Long Way To Tipperary ” Variety Concert held on the 19th September 2025.  It was a joy to witness the excellent performances from the local talent within the Parish and the Premier County.  Your support helped TMF in  their fundraising target to help fund the Church Building Project in Mutare  Zimbabwe on  behalf of Fr. Francis who is supporting Templemore Parish for almost three years. Much appreciated, Thanks again. John N.Galvin  Treasurer, TMF.
