Golf For Everyone.

Templemore Golf Club has adapted the new Golf Ireland Strategic plan, “Golf For Everyone” under this plan all golfers are equal.  The club therefore has for the first time a Lady President Mary Fitzpatrick.   This is a historical change for the club and will rotate each year. The Club wishes Mary Fitzpatrick all the success on been president of Templemore Golf Club 2025.

 

Spring League

12/3.   Week 1 of the Spring League is up and running. While the days will be getting longer so will the course with T’s on the move as ground dries and grass grows.  Encouragement to all to keep it up guys and make the odd call to fellow members.  Round 2 started on the 14th. and runs to Sunday 23rd. Longer course and 3 scores counting ramps up the pressure just a little bit.  Holes 3 to 16 off white markers is the course. Markers are to differentiate between the two weeks in play. Week 1 runs to Monday 17th.   As you play, please return card despite your score.  Week 2 is moving nicely with more than half the field having their duty done. You can still avail of the good days and try and improve on it. All for the Team.  Week 3 starts Friday 21st and runs to Sunday 30th. Holes 1 to 16 off “GREEN” Markers with 3 scores to count.   Due to a number of weather issues arising, Week 2 has been extended to Wednesday 26th.

Week 3 has started 23rd..

 

Volunteers

11/3.   A call by volunteer manager Tommy Foley for volunteers on the course on Thursday 13th. Had a great response on clearing some storm damage and to remove debris from the course. Spinnies, rough, fairways. Appreciation to all for their reliable efforts.

 

Twitter

12/3.  The club web site has now been launched on “Instagram” by the Lady Captain Helen Hayes,  to create a wider audience an effort to increasing more visibility on our club activities and promoting the club for new members.

 

Men’s Seniors.

13/3.   7 teams went out on a cool but dry morning. There was a few changes of runners and riders. 1st. 63pts. Pat Looby, John Galvin, John Egan and James Murray. 2nd. 62pts. Ollie Murray, Colm Dooley and Mick Maher. 3rd. 57pts. Liam Daly, Frankie Shortt, John Stapleton and Jimmy Middleton.  The Tea and Scones were very welcome afterwords.  Well done all.

20/3   On a day the sun shone brightly seven teams plastered on the factor 50 and enjoyed the course in fantastic condition. In 1st. place with 59 points, on countback Bernie O’Rourke, Pat O’Connell, Joe Hennessy and Eoin Wolahan. In 2nd, place also on 59 points Liam Daly, Jim Gilmartin, George Collins and James Murray. in 3rd, place with 58 points Birdie Ryan, Tom Kenny John Stapleton and Tommy Deegan. A great day of Golf was had by all.

 

Ladies Golf

19/3.  9hole competition will be ongoing until weekend 23rd. Our spring league will start on Tuesday 25th. Our club 18 hole will be starting back on Tuesday 25th., Players can coordinate spring league while playing Tuesday, so loads of golf and exercise ladies.   €5 entry fee, placing and bunkers in play, also on Saturday for club competition.

 

Bereavement.

12/3.  The Club extends its deepest sympathy To Eamon Connolly on the passing of his wife Claire.  Also, to their sons Ciaran, Ed and Daughter Mary and to all the Connolly family. May Claire Rest in peace.

Qualifications criteria is broadly the same as previous years apart from one notable change.  ” A player in addition to having 20 scores on their “Record” must have had 4 of them in a previous year to be eligible”.  Dates listed are our first games, subsequent rounds are scheduled at 3 weeks intervals 9approx) after that.  Our Captain Sean Lee is in the process of putting Management Teams in place.  These along with the full rules for each event will be published in due course.

Drive-in.

9/3.  The club could not have wished for a better weather day.  It was exceptional, the best day of the year with blue skies.  It gave the ambiance of a day in the Algarve. Perhaps it was the sprinkle of holy water by Fr. Domonic that cleared the heavens for a fantastic day of golf.  The turnout of players competing was a record.   The course was in exceptional condition thanks to our green keepers Pat Shelly and Dinny Maher, despite the constant plague of inclement weather.  Master of ceremonies were Hon. Competition Secretary Tom McGrath.  Best wishes were extended by all to incoming Captain Sean Lee, Inaugural Club 1st. Lady President under the new “One Golf For All” Mary Fitzpatrick and the incoming Lady Captain Helen Hayes.  Also, to all the volunteers that helped out on the day.

Drive-in Winners.  1st Team, Donal Hayes, Pat Shelly, Breda O’Connell and ANNA Cashman 26.0.   2nd. Team, Mick Keely, John Greed, Joe Fahey, and Mary Hayes 26.8. 3rd. Team, Declan Kennedy, Mick Cahill, George Collins and Margie Costigan 27.0.  Congratulations to all.

 

50/50 Fund Raiser.

9/3.  €150 euro went to Sean Cashman.

5/3.  €120 euro went to Danny Delaney, Roscrea.

 

Spring League.

The runners have been sorted into 18 teams. Wk. 1 is over holes 1 -11 and is open to all male members. Details on board in locker room.  Rounds 2 to 4 will be over 12 to 15 holes each, depending on ground conditions. Week 2 starts on 14th. and runs to Sunday 23rd. Weeks 3 and 4 follow that same pattern. A super response, you must support your team now !!  Let the games begin !!

 

2025 Membership FEES.

7/3.  As the Golf year officially kicked off on Sunday 9th. All are reminded that your fee for 2025 is now over-due.   There are a number of ways of paying membership for 2025 as outlined below:

  1. FAST TRACK payment by Revolut to Eamon Connolly on 086 0213376 (please include name and membership number)
  2. Online Banking Transfer; IE21BOFI90445678133532, BIC; BOFIIE2D. (it’s very important to put your name on the transfer/ membership number to identify who has paid)
  3. Fees Box in the hall in the Clubhouse (name, category and amount paid on envelope)

Please note that new members to the club must fill out a membership form. These can be located on the club website www.templemoregolfclub.ie [templemoregolfclub.ie]   “New Members Form” and select send, also available in the club house.

 

Dunbeg Outing.

10/3 .  Golf outing to Doonbeg on Monday April 14th. First tee off at ten past one. To be included, send your name to Tommy Foley or on the Templemore Golf Club Members App.  The round is €60 euro plus 10 euro for prizes. Let Tommy Foley know if you wish to travel and play with other players. Money left over for prizes will be donated to Templemore Golf Club.

10/3.  NEWSFLASH: Draw for JB Carr just released. We play Nenagh away in Round 1 by 25th April.

 

Men’s Seniors.

6/3.  On a cool dry day, 8 teams wandered around the hallowed turf of Templemore Golf club in 1st. place with 59 points, Ollie Murray, Pat O’Connell, Mick Murphy and Jimmy Middleton. In 2nd place, with 58 points on count back Mick Carey, Colm Dooley, Joe Hennessy and Jim Casey. In 3rd. place also with 58 points Sean Cashman, John Greed, Tony O’Toole and Phil Ryan (Snr) great shooting lads.  After all the hype of the fantastically attended Captains drive and scramble its back to the norm, so if you want to play in the Seniors on Thursday 13th. March. Have your name in by 10am. Wednesday please.

 

Ladies Golf.

11/3.  Next Tuesday 11th. march the final of the Alliance Captain s prize in Rathdowney 9-30 to 11-30,  please text names and index handicap and if eating.  Rules must have played 3 times in alliance since September.  On Going 9-hole competition is still happening recommended to all to get out to practice.   €5 to enter €2 to renter.  Spring league starting names on sheet in clubhouse or on WhatsApp. Same format as last years Autumn league. Draw will take place 15th. March.  Commencing on 16th March .

Golf Course Logistics.

25/2.  For clarity and future reference:  In the interests of allowing the Course time to recover from the current wet spell, it has been decided to defer the Spring League start to Friday 7th March. Draw will take place on Wednesday 5th March.   4’s are not an issue at slack times but MUST give way to smaller faster groups at all times.   All golfers must book in “VIA” the “Master Score Board App”   the Aim is to maximise the course usage and player comfort and enjoy the round.

 

Drive -In.

Sympathy’s.

25/2. Sincere Sympathy is extended to Seamus and Paddy Bourke on the passing of their Brother Joe and to all the Bourke families.  Also to  Joe Clarke our dear friend and overseas member Joe Clarke. When in Ireland he was a frequent visitor to the course and joined the seniors as often as he could. Our thoughts are with his wife Antje and family.  A wonderful pleasant person.  An absolute Gentleman. Always with a smile on his face. May they both Rest in Peace

24/2.   RESULT: 11 Hole -4; 1st. Mick Carey 34pts, 2nd. Jerry Keegan 31pts.

 

Seniors Golf.

27/2.  On a day when frost delayed the start of our Thursday extravaganza six teams wandered out onto a course bathed in warm sunshine. In 1st. place with 60 points was Bernie O’Rourke, Pat Looby, Joe Hennessy and Les Mason. 59 points secured 2nd. place for Sean Cashman, Colm Dooley, George Collins and Tommy Deegan. In 3rd. place John Mullally, Tom Kenny, John Egan and Mick Murphy. Well played and thank you all for your patience.  All Seniors extended their condolence to a wonderful friend Joe Clarke.  May he rest in peace.
