Health benefits of golf to all abilities and all ages.

Golf provides a stimulating mental challenge combined with a healthy walk, in pleasant surroundings and can be played by people of all abilities and all ages.  Golf can be played on your own or in a team.  It may be a casual pastime or a competitive activity. Golf can be good for your health and your heart. Walking an average course for a round of golf can be between five to seven kilometres. If you walk 18 holes three to five times a week, you’ll get an optimal amount of endurance exercise for your heart. If you pull your clubs or carry them, you’ll burn even more calories each round and benefit even more. Men’s Week-end competition.

8/6.  RESULT: 18hole singles played over 3 days attracted a most modest entry due to inclement weather but did not lack quality. 1st.M Cahill 39pts, 2nd. D Cooper 38 pts. 3rd. P O’Connell 38pts.

 

Men’s Senior’s;

11/6.  On a day that did not have a lot of promise due to the inclement weather, Eight teams that had some changes of personnel due to inclement weather, from the draw, took to the course expecting to brave the elements, but the day did not turn out as bad as our clothing expected. 1st. Place Team, on 52 points was Bertie Keane, Tommy Foley and Jim Gilmartin. 2nd. Team, place on count back with 50 points Ollie Murray, Tom Ryan and Les Mason.  3rd. Team also with 50 points Tom Kenny, John Egan Mick Maher and Tommy. Deegan. Well played and endured everyone.

 

Boyne Trophy Competition.

11/6. The BOYNE TROPHY competition was the brainchild of an esteemed Golf enthusiast Gretta Foran in 1994, designed to cater for the “over 50’s” ladies it has progressed to be one of the most fiercely contested competitions in the midlands and surrounding areas. Templemore Ladies took on Edenderry and resulted in a win to Edenderry in a game of fine margins.  Well done to all the ladies who represented our club with honour.  The team,

at home, Josie Bourke, Margie Costigian,  Sheila Delaney,  Mary Fitzpatrick, Sadie Tynan and Mary Hayes.  Away, Kathleen Meagher, Kay Brennan, Mary Gilmartin and Brenda O’ Connell. Great performance by all ladies, defeated narrowly by Edenderry on the 18th.

11/6.  RESULTS: Another fine gathering for the popular weekly event. 1st. T Mc Grath, L Mason, M Hogan 30.2, 2nd T Sweeney, C Langton, H Hayes 31.0.  For the record the toughest hole tonight was strangely the 3rd.

 

Golf Upcoming Events.

Sat/Sun 14th/15th June will be the 3rd event of our GOY competition.

Fri/Sat 20th/21st is the J K Bracken’s Gaa Club Classic.

Cashman Trophy: This team will play Cahir, away on 21st June. Tim Tuohy is in charge of operations. Time tbc.

Sunday 22nd June- 18 hole singles – v Par perhaps

23_25th. June.  Play in Pink 23-25 June.

The Senior men will return to Williamstown for their 1st game in this year’s competition. To be played by 30th June.
