Pat Costello Club Legacy. Deceased on 5th. Nov 2024 (1931-2024)
Friday evening 24th. Sept. 2021 at 7pm. A large gathering of Club Members, Captains, Presidents and supporters gathered to witness the unveiling of a 50-year commemoration Plaque by Pat Costello who chaired the first club meeting on 28th. Sept. 1971. Pat was Captain in 1984 and President in 1986. Pat gave a historical speech of that first inaugural meeting in 1971 to the gathering. A revelation to hear Pats memories on the development of the Club. He was so precise and concise in his recollection at 90yr. that you would stand in the snow to listen to his rendition. Ivan Morris the great golf historian wrote a great book about Irelands 9hole courses in which Templemore features prominently. IVANS playing partner that day was none other than Pat Costelloe. Ivan was very impressed by the course, and even more impressed by PATs playing ability. Pat won an all-Ireland minor medal with Kerry in 1949, so obviously a great sportsman. He was a great singer, dancer, actor and general entertainer. He had great involvement in local productions over the years and were a hugely popular member of An Garda Siochana and did exemplary work with young people as a community Guard. Pat was still helping out as a volunteer on the course in his mid-eighties. He could be regularly seen driving the tractor and gang mower during the summer evenings. PAT was a witty, charming and talented man. Most important of all he was a decent kind and in every sense a GENTLEMAN. Pat never lost touch with his roots as he was draped in his beloved Kerry County Flag. PAT you were a legend and will be sadly missed, and fondly remembered. Our condolence to his Wife Mary and Family. A Guard of Honour for Pat was on Friday 8th at 11.30am. The assemble was at the Sacred Heart Church Templemore. The course was closed as a mark of respect on Friday. 8th. Nov. May he Rest in Peace.
