Captains Drive-in;  It was a fantastic weather day with blue sky’s and a fantastic turn out of family members and friends of all, which made it a great community day.  Captain Tommy Foley praised all involved and also his delight with the huge turnout. He gave a great motivation speech to the club in its quest for the future and congratulated all the members for supporting the club in times when there was uncertainty with its future.   Lady Captain Sara Hearne thanked all the ladies for their support and looked forward to the challenge of steering the Ladies club into the future and expressed with the support of her father PJ Leahy and Uncle Liam Leahy that the challenges will be made easy to overcome.  President of the Golf Union of Ireland Mr. John Moloughney congratulated both Captain Tommy Foley and Lady Captain, Sara Hearne, President Phillip Ryan and Lady President Bernie Stapleton and assured them of his full support.  John gave a historic account on the evolution of Templemore Golf Club to the present day, almost 50 years, and also of the original founder members (and acknowledged that he was not one of them) and felt very proud to have evolved from the 9 hole golf club member in Templemore to the position of President of the Golf Union of Ireland.  Club Captain Tommy Foley also expressed the pride and delight of the club with John’s achievement.   There was great banter with lots of food supplied by the ladies and own bar service by Rody Cawley.  A great and proud day for Templemore Golf Course.

 

Condolence;  The club Captain Tommy Foley on behalf of Templemore Golf Club members expressed deepest sympathy to Teddy Kennedy  on the passing of his wife Mary (née Looby) peacefully at home. Sadly missed by her loving husband Teddy, son Paul, daughter Laura, brothers Liam, Jack, Dinny, Pat and Tim, aunt Biddy (Healy), brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and many friends.  May she rest in peace.

 

9 Hole Friday Competition;  A 9 hole competition is been arranged for Friday afternoons with the tee off at 2pm.  Check out the upcoming date in the Club house Locker room.

 

9 Hole Open Competition; The 9hole S/Ford Open competition will continue until further notice. Come in and play at any-time that suits you and you will be guaranteed a game. Fee; €5. Re-entry €3. All are welcome. New Rule; Entries to this competition can be included for H/C adjustments.

 

Names for the Spring League; There are 8 places left on the Spring League list.  If you cannot get into the club house, phone or text Liam 087 4115773 to put you name onto the selection list.  Entry fee €20.  Don’t delay give this league your full support.

 

50/50 Lotto; The 50/50 Lotto will be commencing as soon as possible. Full support by all members will be required to make this Lotto a great success. All funds will be for the development of the course, the replacement and purchase of new machinery that will improve our course conditions.

Seniors, Thursday 22nd. Feb; It was a blustery bitter cold day despite leaving the Tee off till 2pm.  However, there was a great turn out.  Captain Tommy Foley complemented all who braved the weather and also complemented the voluntary workers for the necessary winter work on the course.  He also appealed to all to attend to a Bunker, by weeding and raking.  One bunker each will be a great benefit to the appearance of the course.  He also offered condolence to Teddy Kennedy on the passing of his wife Mary on Monday 19th.    Seanie Gleeson offered a speedy recovery to John (The Saint) Stapleton and to Phil Ryan both on illness recovery.  He also gave a great humorous and vocal commentary on the winners as follows; 1st. Team;  Liam Daly, Seanie Gleeson, Tom Kennedy, John Galvin.  2nd Team; Tom McGrath, Sheamus Ryan, Ollie Murrey, Donal Golden.  3rd. Team;  Mick Murphy, Pat Maher, Willie Hovery, Tony O’Toole.   All is looking well for this Thursday 1st. March.

 

LMC;   At the LMC, AGM in Roscrea on Monday 19th. Feb. it was agreed to play Templemore Golf Course on Saturday 22nd. September 2018.  The first outing will be in Portumna on April 5th.  Watch this space to see Liam Daly defending his 2017 win.

 

Adopt a Bunker Campaign;  A call up is required for the “Adopt A Bunker” volunteers to remove the winter look off the bunkers by raking and weeding. “Just call in and get on with the work”. Munster Golf;  Irish Cups and Shields Tournaments 2018 are now listed on the Club House Locker room for details.  The AIG Cups and Shields National Finals will be in Thurles Golf Club on 21/23 September 2018.  The Irish Mixed Foursomes National Final will be in Miltown Golf Club 5/6 October 2018.

Templemore Golf Club News;

New President of the GUI John Moloughney with 2017 President (Current PRO) and Hon. Secretary Pat O’Connell from Templemore Golf Club at the GUI AGM in Dublin on the 17th. Feb.

Captains Drive-in;  The New Date is now arranged for Sunday 25th. Feb.   9hole S\F Mixed Scramble.  Apologies have been expressed by Captain Tommy Foley for the many cancellations due to the continues bad weather.  Registrations will commence at 12.30 with Tee off at 1 pm.  All members are expected to support our Club Captains, Tommy Foley and Sara Hearne and Club Presidents, Phillip Ryan Snr. and  Bernie Stapleton in make this a great solidarity start and support for your Golf Club for 2018.  Refreshments will also be available for all in the club lounge after drive-in ceremony for those not taking part.  Bring all your families and make this a great social event for all.

 

Congratulations;   Congratulations to Mr.John Moloughney on his promotion to President of the Golf Union of Ireland.  At the GUI AGM last Saturday 17th. February John was presented with his medal of Honour. This is a great historical occasion for Templemore Golf Club that one of its founder members achieved this prestigious position in the World of Golf.   John in his presentation speech gave great credit to his own club Templemore Golf Club and on the development of the club by volunteers in setting the standard on course work achievements by volunteers.  He also expressed his gratitude to his club by representation with former President (Current PRO) Tony O’Toole and Honorary Secretary Pat O’Connell.  We wish him well and every success in his new post.

 

Historic AGM as Clubs steer GUI forward;  The first meeting Since 1912 attended by clubs at the Annual General Meeting of the Golfing Union of Ireland on Saturday 17th. Feb. represented the most significant of a series of governance changes that the organisation has undergone in the last three years.  Addressing the issue of One Governing Body, the Chairman added: “Over the past two years, the Discussions’ Group has consulted widely with all stakeholders in producing a Proposal for One Governing Body which was approved in principle by both Boards prior to Christmas. The Provincial Councils of the GUI and the District Executives of the ILGU are currently being briefed on the proposal and it is envisaged that if and when the final detailed proposal is approved by the GUI Board, Clubs will be invited to briefing sessions in March or April before being put to simultaneous EGMs of both the GUI and the ILGU.”  “There will be an increased emphasis on golf development & promotion in the new body and significant additional investment in club services and club support”.

GUI Handicap System Changes;  Like golfers, the system does not stand still and a number of further refinements, borne out of experience and new evidence, were introduced with effect from 1 January, 2018.   A number of key principles were taken into consideration during this review process, to encourage participation in both competition and social golf.  Make the system fairer for players of all abilities.  Make the handicapping system uniform throughout Great Britain & Ireland.  In Ireland, it has been agreed that there will be a limit of 36 for men and 45 for ladies in respect of future initial handicap allotments.

Bereavement;   Patrick (Pat Joe) Stapleton, Laha, Castleiney, Templemore, Co. Tipperary, in his 96th year, 11th of February, 2018. Husband of the late Nora. Deeply regretted by his loving family, Paddy, Jerry, Eddie, Kathleen and Josie, sons in law, daughters in law, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sisters in law Carmel and Sheila, nephews, nieces, neighbours, relatives and friends.

Seniors Thursday 8th. Feb; There was a great turnout last Thursday 8th. Feb. despite some inclement weather, however this did not deter the faithful from competing. Best wisher were expressed to Captain Tommy Foley and Sara Hearne and to both Presidents Phillip Ryan Snr. and Bernie Stapleton on their drive-in this Sunday to open the season. Also best wished were expressed and a speedy recovery to John Stapleton (The Saint) who is extremely missed from the club.
