Vice Captain’s Appreciation – Declan Russell

10 May.  To Men’s Captain John Greed, Ladies Captain Michelle Hassett, and Club President Sean Cashman, I would like to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation following my Vice Captain’s Prize. I am truly humbled by the tremendous support and the large number of players who took part in the event, as well as the many kind messages and well wishes I received. Thankfully, the weather was kind to us, allowing everyone to fully enjoy their golf over what proved to be a memorable and successful weekend. to all of the prize winners on their excellent performances. A very special word of thanks must go to Pat Shelly and Dinny Maher for the outstanding presentation of the course. Their dedication and hard work ensured that the course was in first-class condition throughout the weekend. For a club of our size, their commitment and pride in their work make a tremendous difference and were evident for all to see. I would also like to extend my sincere appreciation to our Competition Secretary, Les Mason. His meticulous planning, attention to detail, and expertise in organising tee times ensured that the competition ran seamlessly. The countless hours he devoted to the weekend did not go unnoticed, and his good humour and camaraderie added greatly to the overall atmosphere, thank you, Les. My thanks also go to Saoirse and her team for their hospitality in providing refreshments and looking after players before, during, and after their rounds. Your contribution played a key role in enhancing the experience for everyone involved. To Captain John Greed, thank you for your continued support in the lead-up to the event. I look forward to supporting your Captain’s Prize on 23rd July. I also wish to thank the club management, the men’s committee, and all our volunteers whose efforts behind the scenes ensured the smooth running of the weekend. Your dedication is the backbone of our club. Finally, this occasion was especially meaningful for me and my family, given our long-standing connection with the club, including my father Joe, who served as Club President in 2004. Thank you all once again for making this such a special and memorable occasion. Declan Russell, Vice Captain.

Compliments to Vice Captain Declan Russell from Club Captain John Greed.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish Declan Russell every success as our Vice Captain and as Captain of our Club for 2027.  Declan is a very talented player who has proudly represented the club over many years. He brings with him a wealth of experience, having served on numerous committees and played an active role in the workings of the club.  His enthusiasm and drive. (if you’ll pardon the pun), will be a huge asset as we move forward. I have no doubt that Declan’s leadership will be of great benefit to the club in the years ahead.  Best wishes,  Club Captain John Greed.

Whether you’re playing in top form or just getting back into your rhythm, every round counts. The competitions are not just about winning, but about participation, camaraderie, and keeping the club spirit alive. It’s fantastic to see good numbers turning out, and even better scoring, but there’s always room for more. So why not put your name down this weekend, get out on the course, and be part of it. Let’s continue to support our club and each other by making our weekend competitions as vibrant and enjoyable as possible.

J.B. Carr Competition.

11/5.  After a fantastic away victory over Ballykisteen Golf Club in the opening round on April 17th, Templemore Golf Club’s challenge came to an end on Sunday, May 11th, when they were narrowly defeated by Cahir Park Golf Club, losing on the 18th hole by 3 and 2. It was a great display from the team, who competed strongly throughout and, with a bit more luck on the day, could easily have secured another victory. The performance once again highlighted the commitment and quality within the panel. Sincere thanks go to all the players for their dedication and commitment in representing the club so proudly. The team on the day included Denis Maher, Padraig Moloney, Sean Cashman, John Fitzpatrick, Joe Fahey, Pat Looby, Seamus Bourke, Liam Daly, Gerry Keegan and Birdie Ryan. Well done to all involved.
