Templemore Golf Club, Hon. Competition Secretary, 2026, Les Mason.
Competition secretary Appointment.
Congratulations are extended to Les Mason, former Captain 2024, and current Treasurer of the Seniors’ Clan, on his appointment to Hon. Club Competition Secretary. Les brings a wealth of experience to the role and is widely regarded as an excellent choice. His informative and well‑presented Seniors’ reports have long been appreciated, and members can now look forward to regular competition updates and summaries from both Seniors and club events. His commitment and attention to detail will be an asset to the club’s communications going forward.
Course Conditions Update
Recent weeks of unsettled, all‑season weather continue to dictate course conditions, with ground moisture levels remaining high across several parts of the course. While drainage has coped admirably in many areas, several fairways remain soft, with intermittent closures necessary to protect turf and ensure long‑term playability. These weather‑related restrictions have inevitably influenced scoring, with altered routing and temporary measures distorting the usual course par and making consistent scoring difficult. As a result, recent scorecards are not a true reflection of normal playing conditions. It should be noted that the greenkeeping team Pat Shelly and Dinny Maher worked tirelessly throughout this prolonged spell of adverse weather, implementing protective measures and maintaining playable surfaces wherever possible under challenging conditions. Encouragingly, with longer daylight hours now arriving and a more settled spell hoped for, expectations are that conditions will steadily improve in the coming weeks. A return to full course usage should restore balance to the layout and allow scoring to normalise once ground conditions firm up. Patience remains the watchword for now, with the focus firmly on safeguarding the course so it can be enjoyed at its best as the main playing season approaches.
