Templemore Golf Club News;

LMC President Prize; It was an honor to host the Phil Ryan President Prize for the LMC (Leinster, Munster, Connaught) Senior Alliance Golf Society on Saturday 5th. Oct. It was a great occasion for our club to host this prestigious event especially that our own Phil Ryan is the current LMC President. There was a great attendance from the provinces, despite the inclement weather, but it did not deter the competitive ability for great scores. The overall winner was the renowned Templemore competitive Member “Eddie Butler” also Templemore had 4 more winners in the following categories; Cat. B, 3^rd. Frankie Shortt. Cat. C. 1^st. Bernie O’Rourke, 3^rd. Michael Keely. Cat. D. 3^rd. George Collins. A fantastic achievement for Templemore Golf Club Seniors.

3Ts. All Ireland Final; Templemore Golf Club progressed in the tournament to the All-Ireland final on Monday 14^th. The team representing the club are; Josie Bourke, Bernie Stapleton, Ciaran Hassett and Club Captain Tony O’Toole. The final will take place on the Ryder Cup Golf Course. The competition is an awareness campaign to highlight the issues of suicide in Ireland at grassroots level.

Week-End Results; 18H. stableford 28^th. & 29^th. Sept. 1^st. Ciaran Hassett 31pts. 2^nd. John Hassett 30pts.

Seniors Thursday Golf; The Hardy Boys the seniors, faced the weather Gods and the golf course and played some very good golf. Today’s results were 1^st. with 47pts. Seamus Bourke, Pascal Whelan, Gerry Keegan. 2^nd. with 46pts. George Collins, Ollie Murray, Tom Kennedy, PJ Leahy. 3^rd. with 45pts. George Murray, Tony O’Toole, and Eddie Butler.

A reminder to our Senior all those interested in playing in Cahir Monday 14th Oct. must have their names in by next Thursday.

“Cadets Membership” ; You can join the Cadets anytime from the age of 8 to 15 Boys and Girls and Cadet youths Age 15 to 18 Boys and Girls. All members who have a junior family member that has an interest in Golf should encourage them to call in on Wed and Friday’s. If new to the game, clubs will be made available to those that do not have them. This is an opportunity to build members for the future of the Club. All training will be in association with CGI (Confederation of Golf Ireland) guidelines and will continue throughout the year. Do your best to promote this venture. Fred Perry All Ireland GUI Final at Rosses Point; A historic Golf Union of Ireland (GUI) interclub 4 province competition exclusively for men aged 55 and over, Templemore’s Team Captain Seanie Gleeson was thrilled to have a very competitive element of players for this age profile. Having already won over 5 Munster prestigious Clubs, Tipperary, Ballykisteen, Dungarvin, West Waterford, Limerick, qualified Templemore to the MUNSTER FINALS on Sun 8^th. September at Cork Golf Club -V- East Cork Golf Club with a decisive win of 3.5 to 1.5 continued to the All-Ireland Semi Final on Thursday 26^th. -V-Woodenbridge Golf Club in Rosses Point Golf Club, Sligo. Woodenbridge played some great golf that was a challenge of the men from Templemore but the Templemore side won decisively with a 3.5 to 1.5 victory. Seamus Bourke and Liam Daly, a pairing unbeaten throughout the campaign, put the first point on the board for Templemore with a 2&1 win. Their second point came in the bottom match where Denis Maher and Padraig Moloney were comprehensive victors by 5&4. Woodenbridge rallied, beating Joe O’Connor and Tom Kenny by 1 hole but moments later Templemore sealed the win when Denis Tuohy and Joe Fahy were victorious with a 2&1 win. The nine-hole Templemore course in rural Tipperary was applauded by the prestigious Woodenbridge Golf Club and Templemore’s team Captain Seanie Gleeson spoke highly of his team commitment, endurance and not faltering to the weather elements. It’s a great achievement for a small club like Templemore to have reached the all-Ireland final in this inaugural National prestigious tournament. The Connaught, Gort Golf Club defeated the Ulster side Loughgall by 3.5 to 1.5.

The all-Ireland final stage was now set for Friday 27^th. in Rosses Point Golf Club between Templemore -V- Gort Golf Club. The weather conditions were seriously inclement intermittently, players experienced the four seasons in a matter of hours across the famous Rosses Point links. The drama began. It was so intensive and captivating that it has to be a record for this GUI all Ireland final especially as it was the first “FRED PERRY” competition on his home course. A total of 96 holes were played to decide the winners. At one stage mid-way through the back nine the scene was set for Templemore to lay claim to the title but the resilience of the Gort side continued. A battling performance from Gort against Seamus Bourke and Liam Daly gave them the first point of the day, coming on the 19th green. The second point for Gort came in the third match sealed a win by 1 hole against Tom McGrath and Bertie Keane. The drama was to intensify. Templemore were looking comfortable in the last two matches and would go on to win the bottom match by 1 hole. Denis Maher and Padraig Moloney taken all the way to the last hole to win. The fourth match, Templemore’s Denis Tuohy and Joe Fahy climbed to the summit mountain green .(their 20th) and halved. Gort needed to win just one of the remaining two matches to seal the win. It fell to Gort -v- Ambrose Purcell & Mattie Bourke who lost on the marathon 21^st. hole, and the Fred Perry Trophy went to Gort 3.5 over 1.5 for Templemore. Final result; Seamus Bourke & Liam Daly lost on the 19^th; Ambrose Purcell & Mattie Bourke lost on the 21^st; T McGrath & B Keane lost on the 1 hole; Dennis Tuohy & Joe Fahy halved; Dennis Maher & Padraigh Moloney won 1 hole.

Templemore Team Captain Seanie Gleeson congratulated Gort on their win and emphasized that “Golf is one sport that you can play until you’re 90 years + and you can be competitive. To have competitions like the Fred Perry Trophy for any golf club is tremendous, for older players and most members now retiring at 60 and they are out playing golf it’s tremendous to be able to do that.” A fantastic Victory in defeat.

Gort’s Team Captain Robbie Killeen congratulated Templemore and lauded that Templemore could have won the game on the 19th, 20th. It was hard luck on Templemore.. “It was a thriller, I didn’t think we were going to win it. It was brilliant. I think it’s great for a Connacht club to have won the Fred Perry Trophy seeing as he was from Connacht”.

“Fred was a one off,” says former GUI President John Moloughney. “He was committed to golf and the ethos of the game. He was a father figure in Irish golf.”

The inaugural All-Ireland Finals in Rosses Point was Fred Perry’s home club in County Sligo, where he served the Connacht Branch with distinction for 42 years on the West of Ireland Championship Committee before his death in March 2018.

Fred Perry GUI Trophy; National Semi-final-V- Woodenbridge Golf Club in Rosses Point Golf Course on 26^th. 27^th. Sept. Templemore Fred Perry Team, visited Rosses Point in Sligo on Thursday 19^th. for a practice round. The course and Scenery was magnificent. All played the course well. Very daunting fairways and a challenge to any player. Full support would be great for the team on Thursday 26^th. and Friday 27^th. Tom McGrath has brokered a deal with “Yates County Hotel” for €60 which also covers evening meal. Text Tom for details 087-1147666. 3Ts Golf Team; Congratulations to the Templemore 3Ts team, Club Captain Tony O’Toole, Mary Hayes, Ann O’Rourke, Pat O’Connoll in the first regional round of the 3Ts Golf Tournament held at Dundrum House Hotel, Golf & Leisure Resort on 10th September last. Qualifying teams now proceed to the Ryder Cup Course at the The K Club on Monday 14th. October. Qualifying teams from the Tipperary regional round are: 1st place: Lahinch Golf Club (84 Pts). 2nd place: Dundrum House Hotel, Golf & Leisure Resort (84 Pts). 3rd place: Borris, Carlow (83 Pts). 4th place: Newlands Golf Club (81 Pts). 5^th. place: Templemore Golf Club (81 Pts).

Ladies Golf; Tipperary League semi-final on Sunday Sept 15th in Tipperary town golf club. The Ladies made a gallant effort against Dundrum.. It was all to play for as Bernie Stapleton and Mary Hogan battled to the 20^th. hole almost in the dark! Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be Templemore’s day but congrats to all for the gallant effort. Templemore were represented by Mary Hayes Kenny, Mary Gilmartin, Anne O ‘Rourke, Ann Kenny, Bernie Stapleton and Mary Hogan.

Senior results for Thursday 19^th. competition. With our Fred Perry team away at Rosses Point having a look at the course we still had an excellent turnout of 27 players in today’s competition. In 1^st. place with 53pt. were Paudie Butler, Willie Haverty, Tom Kennedy, Tom Hogan. 2^nd. with 52pts. George Murray, Sean Lee, Paddy Nolan, Mick Connell, and in 3^rd. place with 45pts Jerry Keegan Pat O Connell and Les Mason.

Fundraising Club Classic; The Club Fundraising Classic from Thurs. 12^th. to Sun.15^th. was a huge success. The course was in supreme condition and the weather was perfect for Golf. Phil Ryan, Classic Committee Chairperson expressed much appreciation to all who supported and those competed, especially to the support and help from Declan Russell, Donal Hayes, Tom McGrath and Pat O’Connell also special acknowledgment to all the business, community, sponsorship and donations received. Club Captain Tony O’Toole congratulated all involved and highlighted the high-profile status of the club in the local and wider community and also in the Golf Competitive arena. The funds will help to provide the best facilities for furthering the careers of the Cadets, Seniors and all the competitive club members in this great game of Golf in providing more equipment for this great amenity in Templemore.

3Ts Golf Team; The popular 3Ts. Golf Tournament is an awareness campaign to highlight the issues of suicide in Ireland. Provincial round was in Dundrum on Tuesday 10^th. Representing Templemore are; Captain Tony O’Toole, Club Secretary Pat O’Connell, Ladies, Ann O’Rourke and Mary Hayes. A fantastic day of enjoyable Golf in great weather conditions made it a very enjoyable golf outing.

Diageo Midlands Mixed Foursomes V Thurles; Templemore team battled hard in Roscrea Golf Club the host club for this great competition on Fri 13th Sept. V Thurles Golf Club. It was a very competitive competition with Seamus Bourke and Shelia Delaney having a decisive clear win followed by Joe O’Connor and Kathleen Maher leaving the battle to Declan Russell and Mary Hayes. They displayed some great golf and their determination to win took the game to the 19^th. hole only to be narrowly defeated by Thurles. “A Victory in defeat” as this competition was the Semi final after 12 teams took part in the overall tournament which rates Templemore Golf Club as a very competitive club in both Men’s and Ladies.

All Ireland Captains; The “All Ireland Captains” Representing the club will be Club Captains Prize winners, Eoin Fitzpatrick and Sadie Tynann in Roscrea Golf Club. Sadie Tynann competition will be on the 17^th. Sept and Eoin Fitzpatrick will be on Sat. 21^st. Sept.. Last year representatives were, Pat Looby and Bernie Fitzpatrick. Pat succeeded on winning the event and enjoyed a Golf Holiday in the Algarve. Best of luck to both.

Ladies Tipperary League. The second round of Tipperary league(semifinal) 4 ball, another “Victory in Defeat” as the ladies took the competition to the 20^th. hole in this Semi Final, displays the determination and competitiveness of the Templemore Ladies. Great ambassadors for the club.

Templemore victorious at GUI Inaugural Fred Perry Munster Trophy; A fantastic victory for Templemore Golf Club -V- East Cork at the Cork Golf Club (Little Island) Sunday 8^th. Sept. It was a very decisive win by Templemore over a very prestigious club. Templemore team played with great determination and resulted in the winning of the inaugural GUI “Fred Perry Trophy”. Templemore are the first Munster team to win this GUI trophy. The Trophy was presented to the Team Captain Seanie Gleeson and the Pennant for the club was presented to Club Captain Tony O’Toole by Jim Long, Munster GUI Chairman. The individual achievement of the day was an Eagle scored by Seamus Bourke on the 11^th. hole which was only achieved before by Seve Ballesteros, there is a monument at this hole to Seve achievement. This achievement displays the high standard of competitive golf by Templemore Golfers. The team pairings were; Seamus Bourke-Liam Daly, Joe Fahy-Ambrose Purcell, Tom McGrath-Bertie Keane, Joe O’Connor-Mattie Bourke, Denis Maher-Padraig Moloney, Subs, Denis Touhy, Michael Purcell, John Hassett, Tom Kenny. Match wins; Seamus Bourke and Liam Daly won the first match for Templemore, closing out their match on the 16^th. Tom McGrath and Bertie Keane won 4&3. Templemore’s final pairing Denis Maher and Padraig Moloney put the pressure on and won on the 15^th green. enough to secure the final GUI Munster Pennant of 2019 for Templemore. The next round is the National Finals in Rosses Point Golf Club, Co. Sligo on Thursday 26^th. and Friday 27^th. Sept. Templemore-V- Woodenbridge, in the Semi Final. Strabane-V- Gort. 3Ts Golf; This is the 17^th. year of the popular 3Ts. Golf Tournament. This competition is an awareness campaign to highlight the issues of suicide in Ireland. Provincial round is in Dundrum on Tuesday 10^th. Templemore Tee time is 10.10 am. The winning team will proceed to the tournament All -Ireland Final at the K Club Ryder Cup Course on 14^th. Oct.. Fred Perry Munster Semi-Final; Saturday 17^th. Aug. -V- Limerick Golf Club (BALLYCLOUGH) in Nenagh Golf Club. It was a great victory considering that Limerick had fielded the best of their players, Single Handicappers, formers all Ireland Hurling Greats, but could no defeat the great Team Manager; Seanie Gleeson and his team; Joe O’Connor, Padraig Moloney, Tom McGrath, Bertie Keane, Seamus Bourke, Liam Daly, Denis Maher, Mattie Bourke, Joe Fahy, Denis Touhy. The Team is now through to the Munster finals in Cork on the 8^th. Sept. The best of luck to this great team.

Presidents Prize; Friday 26^th. and Saturday 27^th. Was a fantastic occasion for Joint Club Presidents, Michael Keely and Lady President, Mary Hogan. The weather was excellent, the course was in superb condition which resulted in very high scores. The attendance superseded all expectations. President Michael gave great credit to the course management team and to all the cooperation from everyone which made the occasion very successful. Lady President Mary also reciprocated the same sentiments and especially to the Ladies for all their cooperation in making this a wonderful occasion for the club. The night continued in the ideal location of the Club lounge with music and dance into the early hour. The atmosphere was very enjoyable in what was a continental setting.

All members who have a junior family member that has an interest in Golf should encourage them to call in on Wed. If new to the game, clubs will be made available to those that do not have them. This is an opportunity to build members for the future of the Club. All training will be in association with CGI (Confederation of Golf Ireland) guidelines and will continue throughout the year. Ladies Golf; -V – K Club. Congratulations to the Ladies on a superb win on Sunday 21^st. July against the renowned K-Club Ladies in the Boyne Trophy Competition. The match was played in torrential weather conditions but did now deter the Templemore team ability and determination to win. They battled it out against the K Club ladies with 2wins at home and the final win on the 18^th. hole in the K Club. A fantastic victory for Templemore Golf Club Ladies over the very prestigious K Club who won this tournament in 2013 and 2018. The next round is in Edenderry for the Semi-final pre the 19^th. Aug. The BOYNE TROPHY competition was the brainchild of Gretta Foran in 1994. It has progressed to be one of the most fiercely contested competitions in the midlands and surrounding areas. The semi-final and final days are hosted by Edenderry Golf Club. The victorious Templemore team were; Mary Ryan, Ann O’Rourke, Mary Hayes, Margee Costigan, Mary Fitztpatrick, Shelia Delaney, Josie Bourke, MaryAnn Maher, Sadie Tynan, Bernie Stapleton. Congratulations to all.

Captains Prize Week; Club Captain Tony O’Toole and Lady Captain Lorrain Ryan had a fantastic response to their Golf week events. The winner of the Captains Prize 2109 was Eoin Fitzpatrick and the winner of the Cadet Youths was Niall Moloney. A talented young winner Eoin Fitzpatrick and Niall Moloney from the Cadets indicates a great future of talented young golfers coming through and an assurance to the future of the Club. The week commence with the Vice-Captain Prize S/F on Saturday 6^th.and Sunday 7^th. Ladies preliminary round on Tuesday 9^th. Social Mix and Vice-Captain Prize Presentation on Wednesday 10^th. Seniors on Thursday 11^th. Men’s Captain (Stroke Play) preliminary round on Friday 12^th. Men’s semi-final and Ladies Final on Saturday 13^th. Men’s Captain final on Sunday 14^th. There was a joint presentation in the Club Lounge on Sunday evening 15^th. The weather was fantastic, and the Club Lounge was alive and vibrant with a continental atmosphere due to the excellent weather, relaxation on the balconies to a full moon. A BRILLANT Night.

The winners were; .1^st. Niall Moloney, 2^nd. Luke Ormond, 3^rd. Dylan Carey. A fantastic performance by all and an indication that the club future is looking promising.

“Cadets” Section; The New Cadet section commenced on this Wednesday 3rd July at 10am. The Cadets are in 2 parts. Age 8 to 15 Boys and Girls. Age 15 to 18 Boys and Girls. All members who have a junior family member that has an interest in Golf should encourage them to call in on Wed. Also if new to the game, clubs will be made available to those that do not have them. This is an opportunity to build members for the future of the Club. All training will be in association with CGI (Confederation of Golf Ireland) guidelines and will continue throughout the year. Cadet Youth Competition; There will be a 9hole competition for Cadet Youths (15-18) on this Thursday 11^th. at 6.30 pm. The fee is €25 for the year membership.

Irish Mixed Foursomes; Templemore Team and Manager Seamus Bourke played a very competitive match -V- Thurles in Dundrum. The weather was excellent to start with right up to the last paining on the 18^th. hole. Unfortunately, luck was not with the team as the final pair, Lady Captain Lorraine Ryan and Declan Russell played in torrential rain only to be beaten by one stroke. Another Great Victory for Templemore; Central Towns Trophy, 2nd Round. Home Team Mick Keely, Padraig Moloney. Away team, Joe O’Connor, Tom McGrath, Dinny Maher, Team Manager, Liam Leahy overwhelm beat Castle Barna who won the event in 2011, also Templemore beat in the 1st. Round, Portumna who won the event 5 Times, last time in 2018. 3rd. round date TBC. The Central Towns Trophy was inaugurated by Tullamore Golf Club in 1965. It’s a hugely popular competition. The format is five singles match-play off scratch for 13 handicap and upwards on a home and away basis. Congratulations to the Templemore Team and may their success continue with the next rounds.

Ladies Golf; Another Great Victory for Templemore. The Templemore Boyne ladies team had a tremendous victory Sunday 9^th. -V- Mount Wolsely. This completes the 2^nd round and the 3^rd. round will be in early July . The BOYNE TROPHY competition was the brainchild of our esteemed member Gretta Foran in 1994, designed to cater for the “over 50’s” ladies it has progressed to be one of the most fiercely contested competitions in the midlands and surrounding areas. Teams consist of five pairs of ladies who compete under fourball match play rules. Round 3, The semi-final and final days are hosted by Edenderry Golf Club. Congratulations to all the Templemore Ladies and may their success continue with the next rounds.

Seniors Donation; A special thanks to all the Templemore Golf Club Seniors for their substantial donation to the club towards the recent purchase of new equipment. The Seniors are an integral part of Templemore Golf Club. The Seniors were initiated by Philip Ryan in 2012 and supported by Pat Costello and Rody Cawley. The competition formula was mentored by Rody Cawley which is still in use and standing the test of time and contributes to a friendly inclusive game of golf. The Social aspect, the banter, sharing of stories, presentation of prizes, the cup of tea and sandwich are all vital parts to a very enjoyable day of golf. The seniors are held every Thursday at 10am. For a 9holes scramble which only cost €5 for the day plus an annual fee of €5. The seniors also arrange 4/5 outings a year to renowned 18h Golf Club at special affordable rates. All surplus funds are passed onto the Club towards the development and maintenance of the course. Several contributions were made to the club since 2012. The seniors are very conscious of the gift of having such an open and friendly Golf Club that appreciates its senior members. New seniors over 55 are always welcome and especially from other clubs and freelance members. Current Committee are; Chairman, PJ Leahy, Secretary, Pat O’Connell, Treasurer, Philip Ryan. AIG Pierce Purcell Shield, in Clonmel Golf Club on Saturday May 25. The Templemore Pierce Purcell Impressive Team -V- Ballykisteen In Clonmel displayed great effort by all but unfortunately the day was not in their favor. The victory 4-1 went to Ballykisteen. This consistent impressive competitive team players are to be congratulated in giving up their time in a commitment to the success of Templemore Golf Club in the competitive golf arena. Also a great appreciation to their manager Mick Keely. All are proud representatives for Templemore Golf Club.

Condolences;

Condolences expressed to John Stapleton and family on the sad passing of their daughter Amanda in the UK on Monday 6^th. Funeral arrangements to be finalized.

Condolences also expressed to Dinny Ryan and family on the sad passing of their son John on Thursday 9^th. The Ryan family have been involved with Templemore Golf Club for many years. John’s father Dinny has represented the club on various teams, his grandad Jimmy Snr. was a past President, and his uncle Jim is our current Handicap Secretary. Our thoughts and prayers are with his parents Dinny and Patricia, his brothers James, Daniel and Donncha, grandparents and extended family and friends. Burial took place in St. Brigid’s Cemetery on Mon. 13^th.

JB Carr Competition; After the recent victory over Tipperary Town, the team traveled to meet Ballykisteen Golf Club on Tuesday 7^th. at 3pm. Luck did not prevail on the day. Ballykisteen were the better side. We we’re beaten 4.1. Well done to everyone in representing our Club. The result was not ours this time. Last year was special victory. Let’s look forward again to more victories.

JB Carr Competition Victory; Last Tuesday 23^rd. Templemore traveled to Tipperary Golf Club to take on the best players of this renowned club and snatched a victorious win on the 18^th. hole. The Templemore Team displayed great resilience and spirit and are now on the road to another Munster Title. The victorious team were; Tom Kenny, Matt Bourke, Liam Leahy, Dennis Touhy, Mick Keely, Martin Bohan, Bertie Keane, Joe Fahy, Bernie O’Rourke, Jerry Keegan, Tom McGrath, Sean Lee, Liam Daly, Seamus Bourke. Next encounter is away to Ballykisteen Golf Club before the 10^th. May.

Spring League Final Results; Division 1 winners; Team D. Division 2 winners; Team A. Individual winners; Week 1; Joe O’Connor. Week 2; Seanie Gleeson. Week 3; Gerry Keegan. Week 4; Donal Golden. Week 5; Martin Walsh. Congratulations to all and a special appreciation to all who took part and made this a very successful event for the Club. Prestation of prizes will be after the Social Mix on Wed. 1^st. Full support will be appreciated for this great event and presentation.

Munster Country Clubs Cup, On Sunday 28^th. Templemore traveled to Doneraile Golf Club to challenge Spanish Point Golf Club. Spanish Point were the winners of this competition on several occasions and proved very strong contenders -V-Templemore. The result was 5-1 in favor to Spanish Point. This team performance would indicate them as the winners for 2019. The Templemore team were; Seamus Bourke, Timmy Touhy, Joe Fahy, Tom McGrath, Dennis Ryan, Michael Purcell, Declan Russell (Winner) and team Managers Liam Leahy & Dinny Touhy. The Tournament is open to all Clubs in the Province of Munster affiliated to the GUI and whose courses are less than 18 holes. Each team consist of seven male members and play by singles match play off scratch.

Saturdays & Sundays Competition; The 18hole Stableford on Saturdays and Sundays is now in full motion. This week-end Bank Holiday the competition will also be open on Monday 29^th. The course is in excellent condition, so great scores are expected. Link up with other available players by using the Club “Whats App”

Storm Hannah, Damage; A lot of debris and some fallen trees need to be cleared off the course. Volunteers are requested to assist in the clean-up designated at 10am to 12pm on Tuesday morning 30^th. All are welcome at any time that suits.

GUI H/C Rules; At the recent GUI handicap seminars attended by Handicap secretary Jim Ryan and Michael Purcell, two relevant items need to be focused on by all players, (A) Non -Return competition cards and (B) Away scores not recorded on the “Away Scores Sheet” on the locker room notice board, will result in Handi-Cap penalties going forward. “Be Aware”

Whyte Dowling Golf Society; Templemore Golf Club Hosted the Renowned Whyte Dowling Golf Society on Saturday 13^th. It was the Society 1^st outing for the 2019 Season. There was a fantastic turn out for the event. All lauded the fantastic condition of the course and acknowledged credit to all the course team on the magnificent development work on the course.

New “Cadet” Section; Templemore Golf Club is establishing a NEW Cadet Section in liaison with the Confederation of Golf who act on behalf of the Golfing Union of Ireland (GUI), the Irish Ladies Golf Union (ILGU) and the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) as the development organization for “Cadet” Golf. With ageing Club memberships and the overall decline in golf participation, junior members have never been more important to the future of Golf Clubs. Similarly, never before have children had more variety and opportunity in terms of activities, all competing to occupy their spare time and attract their talent. These factors present a challenge for golf to improve its ‘offer’ to young people and encourage them to start and stay in the game. In the past, Cadet Golf did not require a great degree of care and attention from club management and officials as junior recruitment appeared to be relatively “easy”, especially for boys. Today, the role of the Cadet Committee will be regarded as the most important one in the Golf Club, including liaising with adult leaders, coaches, junior members, parents/guardians, ILGU, GUI and CGI officers and local schools. This will be a great advantage to the future of the club. More details will be announced as development proceeds.

The Seniors; Thursday March 21st. was a fantastic day with some great scoring due the excellent course conditions.

Donation Presentation; The senior chairperson PJ Leahy made a substantial monetary donation on behalf of all the seniors to Club Captain Tony O’Toole. Tony expressed the appreciation of the Club for this Donation and expressed that it will be ringfenced for the current course developments.

Carr Diamond Trophy; Fever will be in the air for team selection to this great tournament which Templemore graciously won the Munster Title last year and progressed to the Semi Finals at Woodenbridge. Bereavement; The seniors extend their deepest sympathy to Michael O’Brien (Bohernamona Rd. Thurles) a great friend of the Templemore Golf Club Seniors Golf, Sympathy also to his wife Josie, sons Gerard, J.J, Michael and Tony, daughter Siobhan, and extended family. Michael passed away on Tuesday 12^th. March. Requiem Mass was on Thursday 14th at 11am. and burial afterwards in St Patrick’s Cemetery, Thurles.

Templemore Golf Club News;

Open 11hole weekly Competition; The course is in excellent playing condition and all golfers are more than welcome to participate in this 11hole open competition. It will continue up to the end of Feb. to the start of the spring league. It’s an ideal opportunity for all competitive members to stay in shape for the upcoming “Spring League”.

The Spring League 2019 Stableford; Club members interested in participating in the Spring League are encouraged to enter their names on the notice in the club house. Entry fee €20. The fee must be paid prior to the team selection so all that have their name on the list are requested get in their fee as soon as possible. This is a great team building event, all members should give it their full support. It will be a decider for competitors to make the Cups and Shield competition teams.

GUI AGM. Captain Tony O’Toole and Secretary Pat O’Connell represented the club on Sat. 16^th. at the GUI, AGM in Knightsbrook Golf Club inTrim. There was a large attendance of nationwide Clubs. Templemore Golf Club is very proud that the outgoing GUI president is a member of Templemore Golf Club. We wish John all the best in his golfing future and acknowledge the pride his position brought to the club. This is a new initiative that will develop the club into the future and create an atmosphere that demonstrates Templemore Golf Club as an Active. Progressive and an all-inclusive Club.

2019 Cups and Shields Competitions; The 2019 Cups and Shield competitions are now posted on the locker room notice board. All members interested in taking part in any of these competitions should make contact with Competition Secretary Liam Leahy, 087-4115773 as soon as possible.

Open weekly Competition; Will continue up to Sunday 17^th. Feb. for the start of the spring league. It’s an ideal opportunity for all competitive members to stay in shape for upcoming “Spring League”. The course is in great shape and playing well considering the recent inclement weather.

The Spring League 2019 Stableford; Club members interested in participating in the Spring League are encouraged to enter their names on the notice in the club house. The 1^st. round will start on the 18^th. Feb. Entry fee €20. This is a great team building event, all members should give it their full support. It will be a decider for competitors to make the Cups and Shield competition teams.
