2^nd. June. On a great day for golf six teams ventured out and there was some good scoring. So in first place with 58 points were Bernie O’Rourke, Tom Hogan and Jim Casey, and Second with 54 points was Liam Daly, Pat O’Connell, and Paddy Nolan. Third with 53 points was John Mullally, Joe Hennesey and Phil Ryan. Reminder next Thursday 9^th. June our first outing of 2022 in Tipperary Town.

Jimmy Bruen Victory by Templemore V Tipperary Town.

Saturday 28^th. May 2022. Congratulations to team Captain Declan Russell, Vice Captains Dermot Cooper, Donal Hayes and to all the team in a 3/2 win over Tipperary Town in Templemore. It was a glorious day for golf and all the sweeter with a victory for Templemore with a very competitive new team. Team; John McGrath, Caran Hassett , Johnny Coleman, Cathal Leahy, Mark Stakelum, Ewan Scott, Ned Delaney, Martin Gleeson, Philip Ryan (jnr), Timothy Tuohy, Keith Morris, Shane Russell. The Jimmy Bruen Shield.

The Jimmy Bruen Shield was inaugurated to commemorate the late Jimmy Bruen of Muskerry Golf Club who inspired the British & Irish Team to their first win in the Walker Cup at St. Andrews in 1938. Jimmy was only 18-years old at the time and a schoolboy at the Presentation Brothers. He won the British Amateur Championship in 1946 and many other National Championships, before an injury brought a premature end to his illustrious amateur carrier. Jimmy was renowned for his distance off the tee before technology was even dreamt about. No doubt about the achievements of this great golfer.

Pierce Purcell Shield V Cahir

18^th. May. Our Pierce Purcell team was defeated by Cahir this evening in Cahir. Tommy Foley Captain expressed a great thanks to the players and panel for their efforts. Thanks to John Galvin for his assistance, and to our supporters who travelled with us. Tommy also congratulated the Cahir Team in their success and wished then all the success in the tournament. Templemore Team. Denis Maher, Padraig Moloney, Tom McGrath, Michael Delaney, Declan Russell, Jerome Ryan, Andy Purcell, Mick Keely, Michael Purcell, Paul Touhy. The subs were Denis Touhy, John Hassett, Ambrose Purcell and Cathal Leahy.

The Pierce Purcell Shield.

Inaugurated in 1970 the Pierce Purcell Shield is in commemoration of Professor Pierce Purcell one of the great administrators of Irish golf from the 1920, to the 1950’s. The format is five teams of Foursomes playing of a combined handicap of 27 and the minimum handicap being 12.

J B Carr Tournament Victory for Templemore V Nenagh.

Congratulations again to John Stapleton (The Saint) and his team in a progressive victory over Nenagh in Nenagh with a 3/2 win. On Friday 20^th. May. The next round will be versus Nenagh in Templemore on Monday 30^th. May. This return leg is for the County Championship title having previous victory over Dundrum and Clonmel.

The J.B.Carr Tournament.

The J.B. Carr Diamond Trophy was inaugurated by Woodenbridge Golf Club in 1996. In 2018 Templemore were narrowly defeated by Portumna Golf Club. A fantastic event in the Avoca Vally. This popular event has effectively become the Senior Club Championship of Ireland (Over 60’s) with some 200 or so clubs from every corner of Ireland participating. The semi-finals and finals are held each year in Woodenbridge Golf Club, usually over the second weekend of September.

Fred Perry Trophy Victory for Templemore.

Congratulations to Leam Leahy and his team in a decisive victory over Clonmel in Clonmel with a 4/1 win. On Thursday 4^th. May. The next round will be versus Thurles at home in Templemore. Fred Perry Championship.

An inter-club four-ball championship for teams of 10 players, all of whom must be over 55, was named in honor of the former GUI President and Connacht Branch stalwart who served with distinction on the West of Ireland Championship Committee for 42 years before his death on March 3, 2018. Fred Perry guided generations of Irish golfers through the highs and lows of championship golf. “Fred was a one off,” says former GUI President John Moloughney. “He was committed to golf and the ethos of the game. He was a father figure in Irish golf.” His immense stature stemmed from his unparalleled commitment to the game.

There is great appreciation to Tommy Foley and his team in organising this Social Golf Day for the members of Templemore Golf Club in Doonbeg. Tommy expressed thanks to Tom and Kevin Kenny for their help. Special thanks also to John Stapelton for his assistance. The results were. 4^th. Matty Stapleton, 3^rd. Bertie Keane, 2^nd. Unfortunately, due to the continuous inclement weather resulting in intermitting closures of the course it was not possible to continue with competitions. As soon as possible all competitions will be back to normal.

The 2022 Golf Ireland schedule will see increased opportunities for men, women, boys and girls to compete together in National Championships.

Fred Daly U18 Trophy 2022..

Congratulations to the Templemore Fred Daly U18 Team. Daniel Joyce, Ned Delaney, Eoin Kelly, Ned Walsh and Tom Duggan. They put up a proud performance for the club and deserve congratulations. It was a very close contest with Dundrum snatching the victory in a 3-2 win. A special appreciation also from the club to the Team Manager Pat O’Connell. A special word of thanks to Sinead and Arthur Kelly and Michael Delaney for their support and encouragement. Complements to Dundrum in their victory and we wish their team all the success in the tournament.

The Great Fred Daly.

Fred Daly was attached to Balmoral for over 45 years and must go down as being a star if not a superstar of British and Irish golf in his day. Fred was known and loved the world over for his ready wit and charm and for holding the distinction of being the first Irishman to win the Open in 1947 at the age of 36. Fred achieved much in his career despite the fact that the bulk of his prime coincided with the Second World War. His Open win aside, many would be proud to have his record over the next four years; second as the defending champion to Henry Cotton in 1948, tied for second in 1950, fourth in 1951 and third in 1952.

J.B. Carr Tournament 2022. Templemore Victory over Dundrum.

The J.B. Carr Diamond Trophy was inaugurated by Woodenbridge Golf Club in 1996. This popular event has effectively become the Senior Club Championship of Ireland (Over 60’s) with some 200 or so clubs from every corner of Ireland participating. The semi-finals and finals are held each year in Woodenbridge Golf Club, usually over the second weekend of September. Congratulations to Templemore Team on their 1st. round victory over Dundrum in Templemore today 13th. April.

Captains Drive-in.

On a glorious and perfect day and the course in excellent condition on Sunday 6^th. March the Golf Season in Templemore became active. 2021 Captain Dinny Maher presented the traditional Golf Ball to incoming Captain Jim Ryan. The attendance was in abundance as all were delighted to get back into their golf after long inclement weather delays resulting in course closures. Captain Jim thanked all those who attended, also best wishes to the incoming President Michael Purcell, Lady Captain Mary Hogan and Lady President Mary Butler. Captain Jim made a presentation in appreciation to Greenkeeper Jack Alaxendra for his dedicated work on the greens and the Golf course in general. Lady Captain Mary also made a presentation on behalf of the Ladies to Jack, both wishing him well in his retirement and looking forward to seeing him playing the great game of golf . Fr. Domonic gave all his blessing and wishes to a happy year of Golf. The Ladies organised a hospitality reception in the Club House Lounge which was greatly appreciated by all as this was the first in two years due to Covid-19.

Captains Drive-in Competition.

6^th Mar. 2022. A fine day and the course in fantastic condition for the Captains Drive-in saw great team play throughout. 1^st. Place team. Declan Kennedy, John Egan, Michael Keely and Josie Burke. 2^nd.Place team. Ambrose Purcell, Jerome Ryan, George Murray and Joe Hennessy. 3^rd. Frank Russell, John Stapleton, Paddy Burke and Kay Brennan. Thanks to the Ladies for a wonderful spread to round off a great day. The Winner of the 9 hole Stableford was Pat O’Connell with 26 points.

‘Golf is for Everyone’

Golf Ireland has launched a new five-year Strategic Plan that will help guide the game from 2022 to 2026. Titled ‘Golf for Everyone’, this is the first Strategy of its kind from Golf Ireland, that comes after a lengthy consultation process. “Golf is a game for everyone – for enjoyment, for health, for life”, is the Vision of the Strategic Plan, with five focus areas set out throughout the Strategy. The 2022 Golf Ireland schedule will see increased opportunities for men, women, boys and girls to compete together in National Championships.

Templemore Golf Club Succeed in achieving a Sports Capital Grant of €31,338.

Congratulation to all the application team in making this application successful. It was a long period of numerous protocols and applications. The news came on Friday 11th. Feb. It confirms the ability of the team involved to bring such an application to a successful conclusion. There was great delight from all the members as it endorsed the confidence in the club towards developments to achieve the highest standard as one of the best 9hole Golf Club in the country. The grant will be ringfenced for essential drainage. The Sports Capital Programme aim is to foster an integrated and planned approach to developing sports and physical recreation facilities throughout the country. It is the primary vehicle for government support for these developments.

2022 Greetings.

After a very successful 2021 under the leadership of Captain Dinny Maher who passed on the baton for 2022 to Club Captain Jim Ryan. Jim and his family are well respected in the golf fraternity. Jim was Handicap secretary since 2019 and his father Jim was Club President in 2010. All club members wish Jim all the success and support for 2022.

He especially thanked his colleague Jack Alexandra for all his expert knowledge as Green Keeper, machinery maintenance and general course work as Jack will be retiring early 2022. He then thanked outgoing president Bertie Keane for all his support and especially his competitive skills as a team player. President Bertie thanked all the members for their support and continued support to the club, he then nominated Michael Purcell as his successor. Detailed reports were then presented by Hon Secretary Pat O’Connell. Communications/PRO by Tony O’Toole. Accounts by Tom McGrath. Competitions by Dinny Touhy who also nominated Sean Lee as his successor. Sean was apprentice to the Competition Secretary 2021 also his background as a former international Hand Ball Champion will bring new initiatives to competitions. Handicap presentation by Jim Ryan created a robust debate on future calculations of handicaps . Captain Dinny Maher then passed over the Club Captaincy to Jim Ryan former handicap secretary who nominated incoming President Michael Purcell with the task of HC Secretary for 2022. Congratulations were expressed to new committee members Les Mason who is active in arranging the Seniors Day and Declan Russell who arranged over the years credible sponsorship. Motions were then unanimously passed.

Bereavements.

It is with great regret that two former executive members of the club passed away peacefully on Thursday 25^th..Nov. 2021. Ray Meagher President in 2003 and P.J. Leahy Captain in 2007. Both made an incalculable contribution to the club over the years. They were highly respected by all members, with great stories of both. P.J. Leahy will by especially missed by the Club Seniors, as Chairman, he was dedicated to the functions of the seniors and always made time for each member. Templemore Golf Club members extend their deepest sympathy to both families and friends. May they rest in peace.

The course was closed to 2pm on Sun. 28^th. and Mon. 29^th. A well-attended guard of honour was provided by the committee and members for both Ray and PJ. All competitions and the 50/50 draw are deferred to next week.

Seamus Cody Perpetual Trophy.

Presented to the club by the Cody family as a recognition of the commitment and legacy from Seamus to the club. Seamus was Captain in 1977 and President in 2005. His dedication to the club is unquestionable in the landscaping, development and expertise on the maintenance of the equipment. His commitment contributed to the foundation of the current course layout. The 2021 competition for the Trophy was an 18h weekend competition. 16 were selected to compete in match play and resulted in the final between Seamus Bourke Son in law to Seamus Cody and his son Eoin, grandson of Seamus Cody. An interesting final on Monday. 25^th. Oct between “ Father or Son”. There was great tussle. Never more than one hole between both. All square going up the last hole when Seamus got snookered in a spinny resulting in a victory for Eoin. “You can’t beat the youth” Well done Eoin. Seamus Cody would be very proud.

50th Anniversary

50th. Year Historical Anniversary

In June 1974, the club was affiliated to the Golf Union of Ireland (GUI) with an official opening on 9^th. June with a blessing by Cannon Noonan. On 28th. of August 1974, the ladies held a meeting in Foley’s Hotel to form a committee to organise golf competitions. Mrs. Patsy Kelly was elected Secretary of the Lady’s Club. In December 1974, the Lady’s club was formally affiliated to I.L.G.U. having been proposed by Thurles and Seconded by Roscrea Golf Clubs. An AGM was held in 1975, 26 ladies attended and Mary Long was elected as the first Lady Captain of Templemore Golf Club.

The 50^th anniversary presentation format commenced by Competition Secretary Dinny Touhy, thanking all who attended and all who gave of their time and also to all the sponsors, who with their support which made this a memorable and very successful event for the presentation and the Classic. He then introduced Lady President Josie Moloney to address the gathering. Josie gave a memorable account of the lady’s contribution to the club over the past 50 years. Followed by Club Captain Dinny Maher who also gave a detailed account on the progression of the club during the last 50 years. He complemented all members for their voluntary hard work over the years and a detailed account on the National performance by Club Teams who represented the Club with great pride. He made a special complement to all the past Captains and Presidents, as it was their visions that shaped the course to its present high standard. He particularly complemented and acknowledge the role of John Moloughney not only for his contribution work in this club but also because in Ireland he held the highest office in Golf as President of the Golf Union of Ireland, which the club is very proud that this prestigious position was achieved by a member and will be recognised by new members into the future.

Fr Domonic was then called to offer his blessing to the club and all who attended and to past members who could not be here for this memorable occasion. Captain Dinny Maher concluded in mentioning that in-excess of 28 pennants have been won by the club over the past 50 years, from the first Pennant won by the ladies in 1987 right up to date Templemore Golf Club has competed at the highest level and that is a great source of pride to every member of this club. The proceedings concluded with a reception in the club house for all.

The time sheets were full and indication of the esteem of our new incoming Captain Jim Ryan. Jim’s Dad was president in 2010 and a delight to have him at the 50^th. celebration. 50th. Year Historical Anniversary.

The occasion was classic, a brilliant turn out of Captains, Presidents, past and present, members and friends. It was fantastic to see all the past Captains and Presidents in full Club formal attire. An indication of the wonderful bonding that exists in the club and the memories of the club activities and developments and stories over the past 50 years. All were applauded for the contribution that they all made to the foundation of the current Club.

The Classic.

What a Classic. The response and support was such, that it succeeded the expectation in returns of what was anticipated. Another example of the high esteem that the club has from its members, local businesses, communities, and Golf Clubs across the country that gave great support to the occasion. A big thank you to all.

50th. Year Historical Anniversary.

Friday evening 24th. Sept. at 7pm. A large gathering of Club Members, Captains, and Presidents and supporters gathered to witness the unveiling of a commemoration Plaque, by Pat Costello who chaired the first club meeting on 28th. Sept. 1971. Pat was Captain in 1984 and President in 1986. Pat gave a historical speech on that first meeting and the past officers and comrades some who are no longer with us. At that 1^st meeting the officers elected were, Chief Superintendent Michael Enright was elected as 1st. captain and Sergeant Ned Sheppard was elected as 1st. President. On 28th. of August 1974, the ladies held a meeting in Foley’s Hotel to form a committee to organise golf competitions. Mrs. Patsy Kelly was elected Secretary of the Lady’s Club. In December 1974, the Lady’s club was formally affiliated to I.L.G.U. having been proposed by Thurles and Seconded by Roscrea Golf Clubs. An AGM was held in 1975, 26 ladies attended and Mary Long was elected as the first Lady Captain of Templemore Golf Club. The 50^th anniversary presentation format commenced by Competition Secretary Dinny Touhy, thanking all who attended and all who gave of their time and also to all the sponsors, who with their support which made this a memorable and very successful event for the presentation and the Classic. He then introduced Lady President Josie Moloney to address the gathering. Josie gave a memorable account of the lady’s contribution to the club over the past 50 years. Followed by Club Captain Dinny Maher who also gave a detailed account on the progression of the club during the last 50 years. He complemented all members for their voluntary hard work over the years and a detailed account on the National performance by Club Teams who represented the Club with great pride. He made a special complement to all the past Captains and Presidents, as it was their visions that shaped the course to its present high standard. He particularly complemented and acknowledge the role of John Moloughney not only for his contribution work in this club but also because in Ireland he held the highest office in Golf as President of the Golf Union of Ireland, which the club is very proud that this prestigious position was achieved by a member and will be recognised by new members into the future. Fr Domonic was then called to offer his blessing to the club and all who attended and to past members who could not be here for this memorable occasion. Captain Dinny Maher concluded in mentioning that in-excess of 28 pennants have been won by the club over the past 50 years, from the first Pennant won by the ladies in 1987 right up to date Templemore Golf Club has competed at the highest level and that is a great source of pride to every member of this club. The proceedings concluded with a reception in the club house for all.

Many thanks to all our senior members for their support for this Seniors Classic. We had a excellent turnout of 9 teams. The great weather was welcome and some say is a sign of good living. The results of this was in first place with 56pts. points were Seamus Bourke, Liam Daly, Les Mason, Jim Casey. 2^nd. with 52pts. Joe Fahy, Donald Golden, George Collins, and Seamus Ryan. and in 3^rd. place on a count back with 51pts. were Joe O’Connor, Pat O’Connell, Tony O’Toole, and PJ Leahy. We play in Tipp Town next Tuesday , if your interested golf meal and prizes will cost €30 per player and names must be in for the draw by 5pm tomorrow evening. 50th. Year Historical Anniversary Classic.

This weekend will be a milestone in the celebration of 50 years of Golf in Templemore. It is truly a remarkable achievement considering all the historical activities associated on the grounds of the golf course. (Refer to the history tab on the web site) To mark the occasion there will be an official ceremonial unveiling of a Plaque at 7pm on Friday 24th. as a reminder to players, visitors, and members of the future where it all started. Captain Dinny Maher and Lady Captain Marian Keely Extends their welcome to all members and especially all past Captains and Presidents. There will be refreshments served to all attending. There will be a Golf Classic on Fri 24th, Sat. 25th. Sun 26th. Both Captains wish all competing the best of luck. There will be lots of category prizes including Ladies Seniors, Gents Seniors, Visitors, non GUI and members and lots of course prizes during play.

Fred Perry All-Ireland Trophy

The All-Ireland Quarter final took place in Knightsbrook Golf Club on Friday 3^rd. September “VERSUS” Connemara Isle Golf Club, Lettermore, Co Galway. All the Templemore pairings played extremely well. It was a close competition with each shot been matched by Connemara Isle which took the last pairing to the 23^rd hole with the final putt going in favour to Connermara Isle. Congratulations to Connemara Isle and we wish them well in the Semi Final at Strand Hill.

Seamus Cody Perpetual Trophy.

Presented to the club by the Cody family as a recognition of the commitment and legacy from Seamus to the club. Seamus was Captain in 1977 and President in 2005. His dedication to the club is unquestionable in the landscaping, development and expertise on the maintenance of the equipment. His commitment contributed to the foundation of the current course layout. The 2021 competition for the Trophy was an 18h weekend competition. 16 were selected to compete in match play and resulted in the final between Seamus Bourke Son in law to Seamus Cody and his son Eoin grandson of Seamus Cody. An interesting final ahead between father and son. A proud competition for both the Cody and Bourke family. Wishing both the very best of luck. May the best man win “ Father or Son”

Bereavement.

Condolence to Bertie Keane on the passing of his sister Ansie Gleeson. Deepest sympathy to all the Keane and Gleeson Families. Removal was on Monday 6^th. from her son, Matt’s residence in Knockmeal to arrive in The Church of All Saints, Killeen for Requiem Mass at 12.30. Burial was immediately after in Killenaive Cemetery. May Ansie rest in peace.

Junior Golf Cadets Training.

This Summer camp training was a fantastic success due to the commitment and enthusiasm of the cadets who continually engrosses in the coaching by golf PRO Seamie Ryan. Over the summer one could identify the fantastic improvements in the necessary Golf Skills. Truly these cadets now have the groundwork done to continue playing and competing for the club in the future. All thanks to the club Juvenile Liaison Officer Pat O’Connell for his diligence in making this a successful event every year. Also, thanks to Tony O’Toole and Les Mason who gave their continued commitment to the project. This project is a significant benefit to the club in securing new competitive members for the future.

With excellent warm weather the scoring was expected to be good, and the players did not let us down. In first place with 102pts. were Seamus Bourke, George Collins, John Egan, and Christy O’ Rourke. Bereavement.

Gerry Reilly passed away on Friday 27th. Peacefully at his home. Sympathy is extended to his wife Sheila and all his family. There will be a Guard of Honour at the Sacred Heart Church on Monday 31^st.. All available to assembly at 11.15 with full colours and captains and presidents to ware blazers. The course will be closed on Monday till 1pm. Gerry was Captain in 1974 and President in 1983. May he rest in peace.

Bertie Keane President Prize.

The competition Tee off on Sat. 14^th. with weather conditions not too favourable but with the gods on Bertie side it cleared for most of the play in the afternoon on Saturday and Sunday became the best day. This did not deter the competitive nature of the Templemore Members as the winner Eamonn Connelly tee off was early on Sat Morning in the worst of the weather. Both days were fully booked to maximum capacity which demonstrated the high esteem by members for President Bertie Keane. Commencing the presentation, the competition Secretary Dinny Touhy complemented Bertie for his dedication and commitment as a team player on many victorious occasions. President Bertie acknowledged that is was a great honour to represent his club as president he then complemented all that took part in the competition the volunteers and in particular the Club Captain Dinny Maher and Green Keeper Jack Alexander for their fantast work over the years in developing the course to its current high standard. Bertie also thanked his wife Shelia for giving him the time and space to pursue his commitment to the club and to his son John who performed well to take 4^th. prize. President Bertie also mentions the historical occasion of the 50^th. Anniversary and looks forward to all giving their commitment to this great event. Finally, President Bertie nominated his successor for 2022 Michael Purcell. A raptures applause from all for Michael as a well deserving diplomat for the club. The President Prize Winners. 1^st. Coincidentally Owen Bourke also qualified for the final with a win over Bernie O’Rourke. Father and son in the final. Seamus Cody would indeed be very happy with that result.

Ladies President Prize.

Saturday 7^th. was a very successful day for the Ladies President Prize. After a week of torrential rain, the heavens remained clear for President Josie and all the ladies resulting in a wonderful coulourful day of Golf. Congratulations to all and especially to President Josie. The winners were. 1^st. Mary Ryan 41pts. 2^nd. Kathleen Maher 38pts. 3^Rd. Margaret Costigan 38pts.

Men’s President Prize.

Sat 14t. and Sunday 15^th. July, President Bertie Keane will host his President weekend of Golf. A very competitive golfer for Templemore Golf Club over the years, representing the club on many occasions with some great victories. Wed. 4^th. July. After an initial cancellation due to extreme weather conditions, it did not deter our senior members and so many hardy golfers take on the course that morning. Some excellent scoring with one team returning a great 58pts. In first were Joe O’Connor, Pat Maher, Jim Gleeson, and John Egan. 2^nd. on a count back with 52pts. were Paudie Butler, John Mullally, Pascal Whelan and Mick Connell. Templemore Golf Club Junior Coaching.

Junior members have never been more important to the future of golf. Similarly, never before have juniors had more variety and opportunity in terms of alternative activities, all competing to occupy their spare time and attract their talent. These factors present a challenge for golf to offer and encourage young people to start and stay in this great game. Templemore golf club has a very competitive membership, this can be identified with all the recent victories in senior and junior competitions therefore it is important to have Junior Cadet Coaching in progress to secure future competitive membership. Summer Cadet training is on Mondays at 10am to 11am followed by Beginner Ladies Coaching. 22nd. July. With so much activity on the team front it was great to see so many out this morning. We wish all the teams that are still in the Inter Club competitions plenty more success. Getting back to this morning’s event, where seven teams took part. In first place with a great score of 59pts were Donald Golden, Les Mason, Tom Hogan and Paddy Nolan. In second place on a count back with 57pts. were Liam Daly, Frankie Shortt, John Egan, and Eddie Butler. In 3rd. place also with 57pts. were Paudie Butler, Jim Gleeson and Tommy Deegan. Congratulations to John Galvin on winning the 50/50 last weekend.

Templemore Golf Club News.

Captains Prize Week-end.

The weather was magnificent and brought a lot of outdoor activity to the Club House. The catering provided by the club was excellent for all that played and visited. The course conditions contributed to some brilliant golf. There is no doubt that Templemore Golf Club is one of the best 9hole golf courses in the country. This has been lauded not only by visiting casual players but also by visiting competition teams. The presentation of the Captains Week winners was presented on the Golf Course amid glorious sunset and very appreciative members, visitors, and families.

Captain Address.

Captain Dinny Maher thanked all the competitors, numerous people who volunteered in the making of this weekend of golf very successful. He also thanked his reliable, devoted colleague on the course which is appreciate by all members for his skills on the upkeep of the greens, the course and equipment. Complements were also extended to the Club Competition Secretary Dinny Touhy and his assistant Sean Lee. He extended a special tribute to his wife MaryAnn and his family for giving him the space to contribute all the time that is required in performing the functions of Club Captain. Captain Dinny also congratulated Lady Captain Marian Keely on a very successful Lady’s weekend of Golf. He also presented to the Lady Captain Marian with a special gift from the men. He then proceeded with the announcement of the winners. 1^st. Philip Ryan (Jnr) . 2^nd. Padraig Moloney. 3^rd. Club President Bertie Keane.

Competition Secretary address.

Competition Secretary Dinny Touhy congratulated Captain Dinny on his successful weekend of golf and all the competitors. He especially congratulated Captain Dinny for all his continued hard work on the upkeep of the Course making it one of the best courses in the country that is enjoyed by all the members and visitors.

A fantastic performance by all the team in giving their all. Tipperary town was a highlight drama account of superb golf by Ned Walsh and Eoghan Kelly. This week is bound to be a very competitive week leading up to the President Prize on Sunday 18^th. July. An abundance of members seen on the practice areas and a number of Holes-in-One is an indication of the enthusiasm of the members also in achieving victories in both home and away recent competition will no doubt provide great competitions for the Captains Day. A special message from our Captain Dinny Maher. “A Fantastic week of golf for Templemore golf club. With the club represented in 4 categories and victories in Jimmy Bruen, Fred Perry and Pierce Purcell. It’s been a hectic week. Congrats to all the players and managers for their huge commitment and best of luck to all in the next rounds. Looking forward to this week competitions and especially Captains Day.

Another Sweet Victory For Templemore Versus Thurles Golf Club in the “Jimmy Bruen” Shield. On this Sunday 20^th.At 2pm. the competition commenced with 3 teams away and 2 at home. The weather was very inclement but did not deter the ambition of the Templemore pairings in gaining a sweet victory over Thurles Golf Club. Templemore won both sets at home and one away in Thurles that went to the 19^th hole. A tremendous victory for Templemore, the team manager Padraig Moloney and his ambitious team, (Home), Philly Ryan, John McGrath, Ciaran Hassett and Keith Morris. The last week was a fantastic victory week for the club with two great first matches wins in Inter Club Competitions under the new Golf Ireland Rules the Fred Perry and the Jimmy Bruin.

Both Matches were home and away. The Fred perry match was played on Wed. 23^rd. versus Tipperary Town. 3 at home and 2 away. Both matches were very competitive with the away team narrowly defeated on the last 18^th. Hole and the home team having a unanimous victory with all 3 teams winning. Congratulations to the team Manager Dinny Touhy the team and Denis Maher, Padraig Moloney, Tom McGrath, Liam Daly, Mick Keely, Ted Kennedy, Bertie Keane, Ambross Purcell, Joe O’Connor, Declan Russell. The second inaugural competition was the Jimmy Bruin, played on Thursday 24^th. Another victorious account by Templemore versus Slievenamon with a win on all three matches away, one at home and halved the last match. With ten teams taking part in our outing this morning scoring was of a high standard. In first place with 53pts were Joe O Connor Sean Gleeson Mick Connell and Tom Hogan. In 2nd place were Tom McGrath John Fitzpatrick Les Mason and Tommy Deegan and with three teams on 51pts 3rd place on a count back were Tom Kenny Donal Golden Mick Murphy and John Browne.

Another good turnout this morning with ten teams competing and some good scores returned. In first place with 50pts were Bertie Keane Pat O’Connell and John Kirwan 2nd with 49pts were Tom McGrath George Collins and Seamus Ryan and in 3rd place on a count back were Bernie O’ Rourke Pascal Whelan and Tommy Deegan.

With ten teams taking part on a brisk bright morning, scoring was back a bit from last week. The results were as follows, 1st place with 49pts Jerry Keegan Donald Golden and Tony ‘O Toole. 2nd, this is where the fun starts, there were three cards with 44pts. On a count back on the last 6 holes, in second place were Sean Lee Paudie Butler and Les Mason. 3rd went to Liam Daly Pat O’Connell and Frankie Shortt.

The Captains Drive-In;

Monday 3^rd. marked a significand day in the history of state independence. It is equally significant that Templemore Golf Club celebrates the Captains Drive-in on what was a very blustery inclement day for golf. However the occasion was marked by our Club Captain Dinny Maher a renowned champion golfer and very deserving of the position, Also on the Tee Box are Club President Bertie Keane, Lady Captain Marion Keely and Lady President Josie Moloney, all renowned competitive golfers. Blessing were performed by Fr. Dominic. This year marks the historic occasion the 50^th Anniversary of the club, founded in Sept. 1971. Also, a historical upcoming event, “autonomy independence” for the Club going forward into the future. Without doubt, a fantastic future ahead for the Club.

Club Captain Dinny Maher expressed that the accolades from both far and wide could not have happened without the hard work and enthusiastic voluntary help from both the Ladies and Men’s committee, club members and sponsors. He expressed a special thanks to all and to the future of the club and a very welcome to all the new members and for all to Stay Safe and to enjoy golfing at Templemore Golf Club and to complying with the Covid-19 guidelines.

Seniors Day;

Thursday 29^th was the beginning of the Seniors Day for 2021 due to the Covid-19 lockdown. The weather was excellent, a Summers there was a great turnout and scoring was excellent overall. P.J. Leahy and his committee thanked all who turned up and had a very enjoyable day by all. See you all next Thursday PG.

Today, 26^th. April was an exceptional day for our Club Members. After to ease of Covid-19 restrictions that closed the course for more than 30 weeks created a hunger for a return to this great game. The weather was exceptional, and the course is in exception condition with many new improvements that will be lauded by members thanks to our Club Captain Dinny Maher, and our green keeper Jack Alenandra. Both continued with their work during the shutdown in upgrading the course to an exceptional standard. Appreciation also to all the volunteers who gave their time to various tasks of improvement. Also, members of the committee in the background who continued with their efforts in profiling, promoting and administration on all the necessary activities that would have been required even if the club were open. Captain Dinny Maher expressed his thanks to all the “team” for making this special day possible. Play Safe and Stay Safe.

Golf Ireland Fund Success

Golf Ireland €2.8m Club Resilience Fund.

Fund aims to provide short-term financial help to golf clubs.

Golf Clubs were invited to apply for grants up to €25,000

Templemore Golf Club Secured €15950.

Golf Ireland confirmed details of the Club Resilience Fund for clubs located in the Republic of Ireland. Delivered by Sport Ireland, the fund aims to provide short-term financial help to golf clubs, support business resilience and future sustainability post COVID-19. Some of the areas in which clubs could consider applying include sustainability, service improvement, training and education for staff and/or volunteers, programmes for vulnerable and under-represented groups to engage them in golf, modification of facilities and ways to reduce costs. Clubs are however encouraged to apply for other ventures which fall within the terms of the funding rules. Many golf clubs have suffered a losses in revenue because of the pandemic and Golf Ireland is committed to supporting clubs in every way possible. This is a substantial allocation for golf, and it underlines the important role of golf in the sporting landscape. “Thanks to everyone for your kind comments regarding the successful grant application to Golf Ireland. It was a lot of hard work, but we have a good team on the job and as with every team someone plays a blinder and that was Liam Daly. We have also made an application for Capital Sports Grant and fingers crossed we will have a successful outcome with that also. On the golf course, we are working hard to have it ready for a resumption of golf in April. The weather has been a little bit kinder of late after a very wet winter on our fairways. So, start getting the clubs out and polishing them up and when we get the go ahead, we can start the golfing year in earnest.”

Congratulations to the election of a vibrant 2021 committee. Congratulation has been expressed by outgoing Captain Tom McGrath to the 2021 Captain Dennis Maher and President Bertie Keane, also to the newly elected committee, Secretary Pat O’Connell, Competition Secretary Dennis Tuohy, Handicap Secretary Jim Ryan, Course Manager Liam Leahy, Treasurer Tom McGrath, Communication and PRO officer Tony O’Toole, Committee Michael Purcell, Donal Hayes, Sean Lee. “Under Level 5 no golf activity of any kind is permitted. Updates will issue as we get them. Continue to heed protocols and minimise contacts. It will be worth the effort. Best of Luck to all”.

Captain Dennis Maher Appreciation. Captain Dennis thanked Outgoing Captain Tom McGrath and also to outgoing President Pádraig Moloney on a very successful hard working year 2020. “I am looking forward to working with the new committee and wish everyone well for the coming year. Here’s hoping we get back to golf as soon as possible. In the meantime, stay safe and new year’s greetings to everyone”.

Continues Inclement Weather; Players persisted in playing this great game despite the inclement weather and full credit to the Course Team for the fantastic work on continues preparations to keep the course playable. All update information will be available on the clubhouse notice board. Book your tee time before visiting the course to confirm your playing time via “Master Score Board” due to the demand on the short daylight time. For visitors contact 0504-35450.

Christmas Fair, This popular 9 hole singles, S-Ford competition was a great success last year. It is hoped that the weather will be kind for another successful Christmas Fair Competition. The course will be set on the Green markers. Entries €3 euros. First 20 cards. Holes 1-5 9th, 7th, 10 and 11. Placing everywhere, bunkers out of play. Prizes 1st and 2^nd. A great response is anticipated, all are required to make your booking ASAP with the online booking system.

Seniors Golf; Results from Thursday 10^th. Congrats to the 9 teams that turned out, and while some lost their way in the fog there were a few excellent scores recorded. In first place with 53pts. were Liam Daly, Mick Carey, and John Kirwan. 2^nd. place went to Bertie Keane, John Mullally, Frank Shortt, and Jim Gleeson with 51pts. 3^rd. place with 50pts. were Seamus Bourke, Donald Golden, Pascal Whelan, and Mick Connell.

REMINDER; Covid-19 Relative Guidelines for Golf;

“Golf courses can reopen from Tuesday 1st December, however golfers must not travel outside their county of residence to play golf.

“From December 18th to January 6th, golfers can travel to another county to play as restrictions are eased over the Christmas period”

“No organised social gatherings, of any size, at the facility. All golf activities should be organised on the basis of arrival-play-depart without delay. Shotgun starts are not compatible with this guidance as they create large gatherings”.

“Daily timesheets are restricted to a minimum of 8, 9 or 10 minute intervals. Clubs may only choose one interval for each day. If clubs choose 8+ minute intervals, play is restricted to 2 golfers per start time. If clubs choose 9+ minutes, up to 3 golfers may play per start time. If clubs choose 10+ minutes, up to 4 golfers may play per start time”.

“Tee times are booked in advance online or over the telephone. Clubs must ensure that players names (including members’ guests) are recorded on timesheets and timesheets must be kept for a period of at least 6 weeks to assist with contact tracing should the need arise”.

“Golf activities at club level may be resumed, including those which are acceptable for handicapping purposes where such conditions can be met under the World Handicapping System. All participants must abide by the domestic travel restrictions at Level 3”

“Members, visitors and staff with colds or any symptoms of COVID-19 must stay away from the golf course/clubhouse”.

“Physical distancing rules are observed by all members and their guests at all times in the car park, clubhouse and on the course”.

“Personnel are on hand to monitor adherence with physical distancing rules and the rules for golfers set out in this document”.

“Those aged 70 years and over and the medically vulnerable should exercise judgement regarding the extent to which they engage with others and in activities outside home”.

“Training: Outdoors – non-contact training only in pods of up to 15. Indoors – individual training only”.

“Players are instructed not to touch the flag or flagstick”.

“Rakes are removed from the course. Players are requested to smooth bunkers using their feet or a club”

Templemore Golf Club welcomes the Government’s decision that golf courses can reopen from Tuesday 1^st, December. This decision means that golf can resume subject to strict health protection protocols. Members welcome the opportunity to resume play on a responsible and safe basis, as they did during the May to October period.
